The genius of Charles James... and my husband Drew. (CalhounSq ya gotta see this!) MEGA Pics Charles James (American, 1906-1978) approached his craft like a sculptor or architect-engineer. Designing, measuring and constructing his creations with mathematical precision and an artist's eye for line and volume, he used the female body as the core around which he "built" his wearable works of art.
James is best known for his evening gowns. He envisioned this one as an inverted flower. The elongated, stem-like bodice is surmounted by perfectly-formed satin petals, from which twenty-five yards of taffeta flow. The bodice's slim, sculpted look is achieved by lengthening it below the waistline and supporting it with full-length stays and strategically placed darts. The enormous skirt is also supported, by stiffened nylon mesh pads and a multi-hooped petticoat. The dramatic juxtaposition of black and ivory and the use of fabrics with different looks and textures make every detail stand out and calls attention to the harmony of the whole.

Details: The hem was done by machine. All other sewing is by hand.

I really adore the dresses. Drew is a master. Thanks Hammy! I'm trying to get Drew motivated. I've shared all the comments with him hoping it will spark his interest again. To answer your question- yes, he makes clothes for real people too. He's done wedding dresses, evening gowns, costumes.
