We used to get this when I was a kid and I remember it being the best cheese. Now peeps are coming out of the woodworks saying they hated it.

Please weigh in and tell me, yes or no to US government cheese? Oh, I haven't had it in about 25 years or so, maybe they changed the recipe. I just remember it being tasty as hell

I can remember we always had little bottles of milk to drink at school but never cheese..

yeah...gov't cheese was the best!! My aunt use to give us there's. My mom would put it in the mac and cheese.

I always hate it. The only way I would eat it back then was if it was in a grilled cheese sandwhich. gotta go now - I have to barf.

My Mama use to make us grilled cheese sandwiches.. And, a slice was just as good.

Somehow, we used to get this in bulk at our church. Members were free to take some home as they pleased. I didn't like the stuff -- it didn't melt very well.

But those huge bricks of butter were the bomb!

we used to get it when i was little...i remember i loved the stuff. i'd eat anything you'd put in front of me and call cheese, though.

the first batches were nasty, i think those were the blocks that you had to cut. Then came the batch where they were precut slices, now those were good. i live in wisconsin too, so you know ours was poppin!

Aw, I feel so ignorant because I've never even heard of this until now! I think I want a government grilled cheese sandwich now.

It tastes like cheddar cheese you would get from the deli in your grocery store, not like that Kraft crap. It's really good, almost kind of addictive. It would come in a big long box.
