Can someone tell me why women in 2006 still go through the whole tradtional wedding garbage and actually get wedding dresses? It looks silly, hokey, corny, cheesy, tacky. Any word you wanna use. I am called juvenile and yet grown women still do this routine. Hell, why even continue to get married? There is nothing you can do married that you cannot do without getting married. People are fooling themselves. disbelief

does it have to be a "wedding" dress, per se?

i wore a beautiful suit from J Peterman. and i was able to wear it later, on other occasions.

I'm so glad I could help! I love that site, and the dress in that pic is gorgeous, love the drapy Greek look with the classy ribbon! I love the colours as well, the rusty+chocolate or similar is my favourite in the maids section, and buttery or antique ivory from the brides'... And no, I'm not near getting married, but I do love weddings a lot. One of the best causes to celebrate in the world smile

people enjoy weddings, I loved my own, it was one of the happiest days of my life - my husband enjoyed it even more than me! (he has on occasion accidentally referred to our wedding as "his" party biggrin ) It was not conventional though (see photos early in this thread). Weddings are a traditional ceremonies. All cultures have traditions and ceremonies, and now more than ever people in the west are clinging onto them because we are plunging headfirst into an uncertain future with less ties to out pasts than ever before.

"his" party, huh? interesting... my own wedding was like that. I've never been much of a wedding person, because I've been to too many that ended sadly afterwards. My first marriage was a catastrophe; my second has worked out all right. smile The wedding party was for him and his family.

My suit was awfully nice. But I'm a practical person, and wanted something I could wear again. (until it all burnt up, I did wear it on occasion)

I realize they are traditions. But there are plenty of traditions that should be done away with. Weddings are tacky and the outfits are tacky.Eveybody looks silly. I still remember that photo of the girl with the silly ass outfit that was posted here. Ugh. The whole thing is dumb. Any woman here that calls me immature, juvenile, etc. and participates in this "tradition" is a hypocrite.

I think more of gardening when I see "weeding."

Maybe Eddie Bauer is a good place to look? smile
