Crown lengthening...wish me luck!

I have to get this done Wednesday and I'm not a happy camper. From what I gathered from the periodontist, he said he will be cutting my gums to make more of my tooth show so they can put a post and crown in it. CUT MY FUCKING GUMS???? eek

This is so not cool. I think I just pooped my pants a little.

for some reason I was imagining the crown of the head getting lengthened falloff

hug well good luck with the procedure. Wounds in the mouth (ouch! disbelief ) heal faster than aywhere else in the body if that is any consolation.

The root canal was a piece of cake. I didn't feel anything during or after so don't worry about that. It's this gum shit I'm worried about!

I was told I'd need this too. I was concerned just like you. I had a temporary cap & I didn't have insurance, so I just put it off, since the cavity was taken care of.

Later, when I had insurance & went back to another dentist, he put the crown on without ever mentioning the gum removal, thank god! It's been several years now with no trouble.

You might want a second opinion, if you can get one.

I've seen people with crowns in the front, and right along the gum is a black line where the crown ends. Maybe this is what the gum procedure prevents, it puts the crown under the gumline. Maybe it's just cosmetic?

The tooth is pretty much all cavity so they need to grind it all the way down. By removing some of the gums it will bring more of the good part of the tooth to the surface to be able to attach the crown to it. My dental will pay 50% of it thank god. It's because my old dentist didn't get all of the decay out when I was a kid, so it kept going deeper and deeper under the filling he gave me. Bastard! mad

Yeah, you never know if your dentist does a good job right away, do you?

My tooth was like an empty shell when they did the route canal. It literally looked like an eggshell. I think my original tooth was filed away for the most part after the filling was put in, and that's what they attached the crown to instead of the tooth.

All this dental work has made me more diligent. I floss every day, brush and use mouthwash like a crazy person. I also got a SoniCare toothbrush which is awesome!

Good luck. You'll be glad you did it. It's better than pain or worries about chewing on one side.

I've always been good with my teeth, and now all this. Between dentist and gyno's and dermatologists I'm about ready to fkn slice my wrists. I'm sooooo sick of doctors right now. But I have to do it so I digress...

Thank you for the luck! Hopefully it won't be a disaster and I will be at work tomorrow.

I think the good thing about dentists compared to other doctors is the same thing that people hate about them--they actually do something. It seems like other doctors say "well give it some time...I could give you some pills...it's called dermatitis, there's no cause or cure...take some ibuprofin...I don't see anything." Or, at least when you're relatively young.

Dentists shoot, grind & drill, but you know that something is at least being accomplished (in your case, the creation of a time bomb under your original filling!)
