Televised autopsies

Has anybody else been watching the late-night autopsies being shown in Britain on Channel 4?

It surprises me that when Gunther von Hagens (the professor who developed the Plastination technique and toured the world with his Bodyworlds exhibition a few years ago) first performed a public autopsy on television in Britain in 2002 there was a public uproar.

This week he has performed four and I haven't heard of any debate or controversy surrounding them. Granted, most people don't stay up late at night to watch bodies being dissected but it really did surprise me that there don't seem to have been any complaints.

btw I was dubious about watching the first one in 2002 but it was really interesting and I felt more at ease knowing what the procedure was. This series is all about identifying the cause of death and understanding disease. It's been very enlightening.

Is anybody else watching it?

I forgot to mention that in this series he is co-presenting with a pathologist.

About Professor von Hagens:

Tonight's show is about why we can't live forever.

For those who are interested, here is a link to the show:

I don't get that channel sad, but HBO used to have this series called Autopsy that I used to like watching. They haven't aired them for a while now. The closest thing to it now is Forensic Files. Forensic Files don't actually go into depth about the actual autopsy like HBO's show.....it's still good to watch though.

nod I used to watch Autopsy too on HBO. The show was pretty good, but the music and the voice of the narrator freaked me out. I can never watch it home alone, or if someone else is in the house with me, I can only watch it when i'm in bed....yes it fuckin' scares me because its real!!!!

Forensic Files is pretty good also. It keeps me interested. I like Forensic Files because they give more details to the story, where in Autopsy they devote like 5 to 10 minutes per story. But Autopsy shows actual live pictures, where in Forensic Files they give re-enactments...you know like how Unsolved Mysteries use to do....

Wonder what happened to Unsolved Mysteries?? hmmm

I miss Unsolved Mysteries too. Robert Stack died a few years back, so I don't know who they would get to host it. He's pretty irreplaceable. A & E has one too, more like Unsolved Mysteries called City Confidential. I'm not too crazy about it, but I'll watch it if I'm bored and nothing else is on at the time. Paul Winfield narrates that one. His voice is perfect for it.

lol it's not that bad. Televised shows can only show so much before someone's offended.

I think it may have been the Autopsy show mentioned earlier but, I was watching it once and they opened this guys stomach up and sifted the insides to find out what he ate. He was pulling out bits and pieces of stuff and looking at it. Then someone comes in and hands him a bag of fast food for his lunch! lol

That one was for you Dewrede! wink

I would sooooo want to watch this show.

I have actually dissected a human being before. In my college Anatomy class we were asked to dissect a cadaver's arm. We had to label all of the muscles that move our fingers. It was very interesting.

I remember telling my mom what we were doing and she wouldn't hug or kiss me when I came home. She would say "Did you do that thing today?" I would say "Yes." She would reply "Okay then get away." lol

It's not just gross , i also think it's creepy
I really don't see the fun in seeing dead bodies being cut open
We don't have shows like that here (The Netherlands) fortunately

i saw an episode the first time around and some of it was very interesting for about 10 minuites but when he put the brain in the bacon slicer that was it ...enough. confused

i think the man is borderline he could have gone one way or the other .probably one inch the other way and he would have been a phsyco serial killer.

The autopsy show on HBO comes on still although I don't think there have been any new episodes. It usually comes on late night/early morning. I have to tape it and watch it during the day or else I won't sleep at night. The narrators voice bothers me too.

I get that impression of him too. I think he was born to dissect.
