Doesn't think Bauhaus is goth

Refuses to buy the authentic remastered Canadian 'Sign O The Times' DVD because of that 'fake font' on the cover

Has never paid more than $20 for any rare music item on ebay. I mean what kinda collector is that? He's obviously a poseur that has fooled everyone with his music snob facade.

i think goth in part was a reaction to bauhaus; not the other way around. there's a lot of very silly and very dancey stuff in bauhaus albums. and i don't think of love & rockets as goth at all. more psychadelic folk pop. and peter murphy went off on his whole eastern influence kick...i don't think they had much use for the goth label, other than it made them some money perhaps.

Seriously, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a band that epitomized gothic rock more than Christian Death from 'Catastrophe Ballet' to 'Sex And Drugs And Jesus Christ' in the 80s. Their first album was more a death-rock recording and everything post-1992 leans more towards heavy metal, but those middle years--pure goth.

As for Bauhaus, I sorta agree with Anxiety in that Bauhaus never went around calling themselves goth, they just did what they liked, other bands copied them and the whole thing in retrospect was labeled goth. However, I've already told Anx that 'goth' and 'dancey' are not mutually exclusive terms otherwise the biggest goth band ever, The Sisters Of Mercy, would be considered a disco act. But he refuses to be convinced to this day, so back to the appreciation posts...
