I feel ya...

my little cousin's name is Loveday. We call her Love or LD. Believe me we all looked at her mom like she was crazy but it sorta fits her.

plus that chile has signed with Ford modeling agency....so Loveday works for her

eek Wow, she's just beyond beautiful.

I'll tell this story:

I knew this doctor and we were having this very conversation about names. He was talking about all the odd names that he's come across. he said he had this one patient that named her child "B'onka". So when he was speaking to the mother about the child, he said, "So how's bon-ka doing?" The mother had a fit and said "my chile's name is B-on-ka" Then he said OH..and just walked out the room. lol

nod I know a girl named Beyounka I told her your name isn't Bianca it's BEY-YOUN-KAH

she didn't think it was funny. I also knew a Anthwaune (Antoine)

I also know a Liberty, Harmony, and Melody, I am still waiting to meet a Strange(stran-jay)-you know from the Boomarang movie. You know she's out there. nod

I mixed up the spelling on my daughters name but only her middle name can be considered Ghetto,

with my youngest I went ethnic but pronounceable lol

Thanks (I had anything to do with it smile) This pic does nothing for her beauty. She is the prettiest little girl and VERY sweet. My cousin is concerned that she will have some issues with ppl always telling her she's pretty but LD seems to be fine. She just likes to get her play on. smile

And Buttah...so far so good...LD is the only odd name in the family. Even our ghetto family members have names like "holly" and "veronica"...

my mom had a friend named Truelove. smile

Ok, I was talking to my bestfriend's husband and he works at my son's school. He will never forget this little girl whose name was spelled: Leseeria. Now, looking at that, there are a number of ways you could pronounce it, right? I can assure you though that according to her mother, you are wrong. He mother prononces it:

Lareesia (La'-ree-see-ya)

...and will cuss you out for saying it wrong too! That type of denial amazes me! The only thing I could figure is that she may be dyslexic causing her to put the "r" in the wrong spot. disbelief

me and my friend was talkin bout this exact thing in spanish!

she asked me, would u every name ur kid porsha?? i was like nahhh its cute but i aint name my kids after things. then she was like i'm be ghetto and name my kid lisole! (that cleaner stuff, i forget how to spell it), then she was like nahh nahh my kids gonna have ho's @ the end of they names. then she proceeded to name some ...ho's, then i said what about mayho (my-ho) and we started jokin on all the ways folks could joke on that name, then i was like its gonna be mayho and taho! i actually dig mayho tho, lol

i think i only ever knew one person with a "ghetto" name. chyneesha, we called her chyna tho. our teacher used to always fuck up on her name and call her chynessa or chyneska. i knew this boy named rashawn but its pronounced rajohn
then there was this little boy in my old school named prosper, i had a teacher named ya-na-tee but it was speled nyomontie (something like that)

i like ethnic names. i knew a girl named ore (everbody used to joke on her and call her oreo) and her sister was olutosin (we called her tossi), my 8th grade teachers name was zadiah

i hate country ass names tho. my grandma's name is mae. now mae by it self is nice but when put shit in front of it i can't stand that. so my middle name is mae, first name maya. my friends joked on that shit (and said it with a twang!!) for the longest

whoever named their kid langston amir thats real pretty

Yanno Meow...I was gonna say...I know a few white Asia's. and my very white sister in law wanted to name my nephew D'Vante....so this ain't just black women. Ya'll know me and my mother just had a fit so she changed her mind quickly.

On some level its more of a class thing than race....smile

I know there are at least 6 Ashley's on the varsity and jv teams...all black girls so its not all of us. Thank GAWD!!! Actually there's not one "ghetto" name on all 3 levels of b-ball team EXCEPT Tanisha.

I still like Paris for a boy, but for me Helen of Troy's lover and the city come to mind, not Ms. Hilton.

I knew girls named Aphrodite and Artemis as well. nod I think they are beautiful names. I also knew a girl named Athena (which is not weird, but it's along those same lines I suppose).

I also knew girls named Andromeda, India, and Ostrey. Also three girls alone in my high school in San francisco named Isis. lol 3!!!

It's been the trend here in France recently to name children after their grandparents... So all the old names are coming back - stuff like Lucien, etc.

Aphrodite's always saying she's going to find some nice Greek man named Hermes and they'll call their first child Hermaphrodite. Seeing as her current is named Ryan though, she may need to think up a backup plan. razz

Interesting. nod Lucien was always on my list if I ever had a boy actually. nod

So if I named my kids after my grandparents, then the girl names would be Lorraine or Clothilde, and for the boys it would be Howard or Aristeo. biggrin
