Well...I missed the chat...but I agree.

Reasons episode tonight was boring: bored

-Boring Jack back-story - it's not like he slept with the girl - he kissed her. Not very saucy. Also, I did not care about his wife at all, even knowing that she was the one he fixed. Just not enough character development. So when he kissed that Italian chick, I was like, GO JACK! because he seemed so sexually frustrated.

-Boring confrontation: "This is our island. Now turn around and go home." Okay, thanks. Anticlimactic, anyone? Anyone else think those burning lanterns were some sort of trick? Also, Kate is a dumbass.

-Boring flirtation between Sawyer and Kate. We get it. Move on.

-No sign of Michael or Walt. At least give some clue.

The only interesting part was the VERY end, when Jack asks AL about training an "army." Okay, I think they definitely stand a chance against the chunky pirate and his team of lanterns, but they don't even know where the hell these people live or what they do or what kind of powers they have. Michael has special powers, and the chunky pirate even referred to them, saying "he's a special boy." Maybe this group is some sort of subsidiary of the Dharma people.

Looks like we won't be getting any answers next week, either...I didn't even know what the hell to make of the preview. I guess that baby is evil, after all... eek

Awww, I can't even talk shit about this show without adding some sort of disclaimer. Who am I kidding...I was on the edge of my seat, heart racing, gripping my boyfriend the entire time. LOST has got me good, yo.

OH! And how did Sawyer know pirate "Zeke"'s name??? Has this been revealed before, or was it just some sort of snide comment?

ALSO - Maybe Jack's wife was cheating on him with another castaway?

I have seen every episode of this show. I have turned many of my friends on to it. But I happen to think it's about the most over-rated thing going right now. In fact, about 2/3 of the time it's either dead-slow or just plain stupid. I WANT to like this show as much as those people who are all crazy about it, but it's just not THAT good.

I think the problem is that I don't genuinely like too many of the characters, except Sun and the older black lady who was seperated from her husband (can't remember her name). Most of the main characters bug the shit out of me.

It would make a really great 3 or 4 part mini-series.

Which characters annoy you and why?

I just don't think of them as being good guys, which was put into perspective in the episode about the "tailies." The implication was made that it was the good people that were being taken by the "Others."

So maybe the fact that most of the lead characters are dispicable is relevant to the plot. That they're all fugitives and fuck-ups may turn out to be important, but it kinda keeps me from investing in the characters. That aspect is just me, admittedly, and why I've never gotten into "Sopranos" or any of that gangster stuff.

My real problem is that so little actually happens on the show. Answers are soooo slow in coming, and it feels like the writers and creators themselves don't really know where it's going.

I mean, I like the show and all, and I'll continue watching it. I just don't think it's as good as people make it out to be. I wish I could dig it as much as you do.

I don't think they're all fuck-ups. Certainly Kate and Sawyer have done some questionable things - but were they for the right reasons? Their actions may have been bad, but were their motivations good? And what has Jack done wrong besides question his marriage and get his dad fired (for a very right reason, in my opinion)? We question our "heroes." We have to. Of course they are flawed. Every character must be flawed to elicit empathy. Otherwise, they're inhuman. Some of the backstories lend the characters some amazing development in a very short period of time. I do dislike some of them (Kate, the bitch who got killed, AnaLucia) but I think Jack, Locke, Michael, Sun(???) and Jin are solid. I hope we'll get to know the new people...and some of the random ones whom we haven't met, too.

I do agree with you on the slowness, though...with a premise of people stuck on an island, there's only so long you can take it. But it also hooks people - because, as with any castaway story, you've gotta know how, when, and if they get rescued!!! They are very slow to reveal things...but I'm pretty sure they have some good wrap-ups up their sleeves. I mean, it's a huge TV show...they have to...right? biggrin

Am I the only one wondering what the hell is going on in the "real world" - what their families/friends/whatever are doing/thinking -- if someone is trying to find them -- anything like that? I feel like that should be covered somehow, although it would be difficult to work it in.

Nah, you're right. I just don't like 'em all that much. What happened to the big monster, and polar bears, and Jack's dad's corpse walking around...stuff like that has just been forgotten and the hatch has taken up this whole season.

I dunno. I hope you're right. I'll keep watching, 'cause I know as soon as I put it down it'll get good and I'll be pissed!
