OMG!!!!! You talking about bringing back memeories!!!!! I have worked since I was 12 and in my Grandparents time they didnt have food stamps when they were bringing up families.

My parents are deceased and now I take care of my 85 yr-old Grandmother and the state dont give me or her shit!!!!! Hell yes I will buy somebody's card if they are selling it!!! That other money will then go for her medicines or our utilities!!! I dont even think about myself!!!

Old folks in my city only get like $10-15 in food stamps IF the qualify but the ones her who get drug and alcohol checks get $150 a month fopr a single person!!! Do you know what I could do with that!!!

My girl gave me $50 in food stamps for my b-day last year and I cried!!! She said you are always thinking of others, here get something for you self!!!

No the system is not fair by no means at all because single people who are the working poor like me we dont get shit!!! and I dont have kids and I dont recieve welfare!!!

sigh

I've been working since I was 15 and never had a Coach bag.

She's on WIC coupons and food stamps and can afford a Coach bag?! Do you know how expensive those things are? That's a luxury item...if you have extra money to buy a Coach bag maybe you should rethink your priorities and buy your own damn food.

Nothing personal, Apples, but you should think before you go getting mad at someone for something like that. I'm so sick and tired of poor people having to justify everything as if we don't have a right to have cell phones, televisions, etc.

I can get mad at whomever I want...I was that poor at one time and NEVER had foodstamps or government help of any kind. I busted my ass to get through college and paid for it myself...I've been laid-off twice and just three months ago had all my shit burned up in a fire...and I have never had a Coach bag.
Fuck that.

people have the right to own what they earn. cell phones are a luxury item. people on welfare definitely should NOT be paying for cell phone bills

But does the fact that you never had foodstamps make you better than me because I do receive them? (By the way, I go to work every single day and still get stamps) It doesn't make sense for your frustrations about your situation to be directed at another person who's struggling. Why aren't we directing our frustrations at the system that keeps us all struggling in teh first place?

Why are you so intent on judging other people and their choices? I know plenty of low-income folks who have a pre-paid cell phone instead of a house phone because it's cheaper. Others have a family member who pays for their phone.

Bottom line, though: It's none of your business.

I never said I was better...but, I don't go out and buy things I can't afford and then ask the government and other hardworking people of this country to feed me either.
That's why I'm frustrated at people who take food stamps or assistance, but still buy luxury items. I only buy luxury items if I have the extra money to afford them...I don't ask for other people to buy me food so I CAN afford them. If someone needs legitimate help then I wish them the best...and I understand why they take it...but, it PISSES ME OFF to see people using food stamps and carrying a $350 purse.

Like I said above, a miniscule fraction of taxpayer dollars.

I don't see anyone up in arms about the sons and daughters of wealthy oil magnates who will never have to work (and buy plenty of luxury items) because government backroom deals make their parents millions and millions of dollars. That's the kind of welfare that pisses me off. Not a woman who is expected to live on $400 a month and happens to (oh, no!) have a nice pocketbook.

Why is she EXPECTED to live on $400/mo? Why can't she get off her ass and get a job? My sisters were both single mothers with deadbeat ex husbands and they ALWAYS worked and NEVER had food stamps.

even the most basic of jobs pays more than 400$ a month. c'mon.

yes, the system is fucked. but the more people who abuse it the more those in power will justify their oppression of the thieving masses. don't you see that? welfare abuse is one readon the republican aprty is reluctant to increase social services programs. they figure folks are just abusing the services. and in some cases they're right

1. Parenting is work.
2. Here in Massachusetts at least, most families with jobs qualify for food stamps because the cost of living is so high.
3. Hats off to your sisters. It's not easy for mothers.

and again what is wrong with that? just because a person gets foodstamps does not mean all sit on their ass and do nothing. i get them and i work also, and i pay taxes too. i also go to school while my kids are in school. so so what i gotta cell phone, i need it for my kids if something happens at school or what ever. stupid. stop cryin' if its any consolation i'm still broke.

Going where? Like I said, I work every day. My ex (does that make me more of a person in your eyes? My kids were planned, with a partner) is mentally ill and doesn't work so I receive no child support. I earn a paycheck and get a measly 80 bucks a month in food stamps. Which I budget out painstakingly every single month to buy the most nutritious and economical food possible for my daughters.

I can't believe folks are so bitter about a few bucks going to buy food for kids.

I know parenting is hard work...a full-time job...the cost of living here in Michigan is really high too...and if my sisters can do it, why can't other women? Not to mention, they sacrificed for their kids...often going without things themselves so their kids could have them. They have NEVER bought a $350 handbag...or anything else that extravagant. They know what their priorities are.

i don't hate poor people. nor do i mind paying taxes to fund social support systems. i just hate that shit where food stamps are being used as devalued currency to buy non-food items.

gotta sign off now. work calls
