Are you happy with your neighborhood?

Do you like where you live?
Your street? Your neighbors? Your location?

Would you leave if you had the chance?

Only in a utopian society can one truly be happy with their neighborhood.

First!
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

The neighbors up and down my particular street are awesome. I'd pack 'em up and take them wherever I went, if I could. I'm dissapointed, though, in my city overall...

I live in one of Cleveland's most interesting inner-ring suburbs, colored both by a certain urbanity and bohemian vibe and many of the creature comforts and safeties of more outlying 'burbs. My city boasts some of the most exciting restaurants, movie houses, art galleries, architecture, places of worship and cultural landmarks of the entire greater Cleveland area. And it's easily one of the most diverse -- if not the most diverse -- areas of the region.

But this 'burb is becoming disgustingly gentrified and quartered: All the folk who gave the area it's personality have either moved away because they couldn't afford to work and/or live here anymore or they've made tons of money such that they've been spoiled and moved to even more exclusive 'burbs. What's left, then, is increasingly a sad approximation of what this town used to be, with spatterings of newcomers -- either the working poor who live here as a sort of passe status symbol; or those with new money, who, while they can afford the absurdedly priced new condos, etc., want nothing to do with their "lesser" neighbors, leaving the public schools to fester, certain more working-class corners of the suburb to decay and the sense of community that used to define this place to die. It's revolting.

This sentiment is echoed, too, by the Greater Cleveland area. It has such potential, but is plagued by a certain provincial attitude and "me first and only" mentality.

On some level, I realize that to leave here would be to contribute to the pattern of dissertion. But I don't know what to do anymore -- this place is killing me. It's like living in a spiritual Siberia.

So, yeah, I'm actively planning to get out of here within the next 12 months. sigh

cool LUV my neighborhood. My neighbors are really cool to. Everybody is gone all day, working and come home late at nite, so we rarely see each other. But on weekends we usually run into each other while walking our dogs or taking a walk..... sometimes we get together at my house or another neighbors house and have a few drinks and listen to music cool

I've contemplated moving a few times, but I couldn't stand to live somewhere busy in the middle of Bangkok. It's quiet here, with local shops, restaurants and stuff all within walking distance. The people are friendly, and after a few turns down little streets to the house, it feels like you're further away from the city than you are.

Eh...lol...I live right near the foot of the mountains so that part is great. If I drive to the right of my apartment complex, the neighborhoods gets increasingly nicer...if I drive to the left, they get increasingly worse.

I'm contemplating a move to Santa Barbara, actually... hmmm...wouldn't mind owning a small house there that overlooks the ocean. nod

I hate my neighborhood...too many blue hairs and "little dogs, too," (in Wicked Witch of the West voice. lol ) I really wanted to live in Hell's Kitchen but even that is getting pricey for Manhattan & gentrified! Instead I have a rent stabilized one bedroom in a boring neighborhood for the same price as the teeny studios I was looking at in Hell's Kitchen.
I miss the apartment where I lived 5 years in Chicago. It was so cute, on a great street and close to the lake...and HALF the price of my Fuckin' NYC rent with double the amenities. sigh
But they both beat the boring ass farm where I grew up! biggrin
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I love it woot!
It's very quiet, semi rural and my neighbours rock.

The house next door to me has just sold and I haven't met the new owners yet. I really hope they're nice otherwise it would spoil everything.

In keeping with this theme,
I was gonna post a few lyrics from Mr. Rogers' theme song,
but when I googled it, to be sure that I got the words correct,
I got two pages worth of porn-sites.

There goes the neighborhood, I guess.

Yup, it's ten minutes walk from the city centre, very convenient. Bang smack in between two pubs and shops are nearby. It's not the best house I've ever lived in but it's like my sanctuary. I love the people I live with, no drama whatsoever.

Plus, it's very close to the University so I'm confronted with hot students everytime I open my front door. razz That always starts the day off nicely.

Don't know much about our neighbours. One is a clarinet teacher - I hear her playing scales quite often; her lodger came in the other day and asked if we'd like to join their party. Nice of them to ask. The other, I don't know where to begin. My housemate Dan is to blame for that one; he got talking to him and - for the next few weeks - he came in every single day. He's very posh, very dim - exactly like the Harry Enfield character - and it takes him about 15 seconds to register anything you're saying. Very odd. We got Dan to put a stop to that.

Would you leave if you had the chance?

Um, well, I don't intend to spend the rest of my life there but I'll be there for quite a while, I'm sure. There's a possibility we mave move in the next few months; if we move - we move, if we don't - we don't. I'm happy either way.

My dream would be to buy a huge house and live there forever with my closest mates. Everyday would be so utterly amazing. We've already entitled it 'Kook Mansions'. It will happpen. smile

I'm quite happy with my neighborhood because its one of the very few truly diverse areas in Indy...including the school system.

Its peaceful and quiet.
