Phillip Seymour Hoffman is one of my favorites, so congrats to him. I really want to see "Captoe" but I'm sure I'll have to wait for video. I also hope he gets nominated and wins the oscar. He has been ignored too often.

It was defintaley an oscar worthy performance (also came out on Christmas like many Oscar movies) but the movie didn't get enough buzz and kind of died. Brokeback Mountain saw limited release in the United States on December 9, 2005 (in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco), taking $547,425 in just five theaters in its first weekend. This was the highest per-showing average for any drama in film history. Over the Christmas weekend it posted the highest per theater gross of any movie and was lauded as a box office success not only in urban centers such as New York City and Los Angeles, but in suburban theaters near Portland, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, and Atlanta. On January 6, 2006, the movie expanded into 483 theaters. In doing so, it took in its largest one-day gross to date at $2.3 million in the U.S on Januray 7. Okay, am I the only one in the gay community that didn't like Brokeback? I definately thought Capote was the better film, although Heath Ledger was spectacular as Ennis.

Brokeback won 4 out of 6. Not bad. Heath Ledger lost but he did it to Phillip Seymour Hoffman(that's his name right?) for CAPOTE. I'm sure Hoffman was really good. I haven't seen it yet.
Woo hoo for Felicity Huffman for TRANSAMERICA. It was a very gay Golden Globe awards show. 6 of the awards were for a gay or transgendered theme. CAPOTE has a gay character, duh, but the movie isn't about that. M [Edited 1/17/06 8:32am] MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! I finally saw it yesterday.
Fucking wow. The only thing I didn't like were the aggressive sex scenes. I couldn't tell if they were fighting or fucking. I almost teared up though, at that part when Ennis was up against that wall crying, and at the end when they showed what happened to Jack. But there were a few things that caught my attention: 1. Anne Hathaway has some nice titties. 2. The special effects were HORRIBLE. How the hell can she go from brunette, to a fucking feathered out blonde wig, in the same damn movie like nobody would notice? 3. The "what the fucking hell" look on Ennis' wife's face when he flipped it and reversed it on her 4. When Jack was riding the tractor with his son and in bright yellow letters it said "VERSATILE" 5. and what the FUCK was in Ennis' mouth through the whole damn movie? Other than that, I love love loved it. It was too real for me though. I don't think I could watch it again. And yeah, Ennis was a fucking coward. "you know i ain't queer" bitch please. Fucking wow. The only thing I didn't like were the aggressive sex scenes. I couldn't tell if they were fighting or fucking. that was intense, and meant to be. part fear, part untapped pent-up sexual energy from always wanting to, but never doing, and part animal lust. I almost teared up though, at that part when Ennis was up against that wall crying, and at the end when they showed what happened to Jack.
it got me. the scene where he tries to vomit rather than cry was spectacular, and heartbreaking. seeing the shirts wrapped in one another totally killed me. But there were a few things that caught my attention:
1. Anne Hathaway has some nice titties. 2. The special effects were HORRIBLE. How the hell can she go from brunette, to a fucking feathered out blonde wig, in the same damn movie like nobody would notice?
not really a special effect, hust a bad 'on-a-low-budget' wig... it bothered me too. 3. The "what the fucking hell" look on Ennis' wife's face when he flipped it and reversed it on her
4. When Jack was riding the tractor with his son and in bright yellow letters it said "VERSATILE"
didn't catch that... 5. and what the FUCK was in Ennis' mouth through the whole damn movie?
that's called texas lockjaw... people, men in general, really do talk like that by moving their jaw as little as possible. it's part of why i found his performance BRILLIANT. i grew up with guys just like that in texas. Other than that, I love love loved it. It was too real for me though. I don't think I could watch it again. And yeah, Ennis was a fucking coward. "you know i ain't queer" bitch please.
his fear is the whole point of the movie. Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

You know what? As much as I did love the movie, I'm still glad for the positive recognition that it's getting, but at the same time I'm not jumping up and down for joy yet. I mean, one up for us, but it isn't doing too much for the gay rights movement. I'm not saying it was supposed to as I'm sure that wasn't Ang Lee's aim when doing the film, but I'm not praising it in that sense. Just wanted to say.... One of Dansa's org hornies

I got a reply from Carmike- It's coming to Columbus Friday the 20th!Dear Stuart: Thank you for your message. We are playing “Brokeback…” in as many locations as it’s distributor has allowed. Since a film’s distributor decides where, when, and at what theatres its movies will play, all we can do is wait to see when they intend to expand their very limited release. Sincerely, Gary Green Stuart, Focus Features, the distributor of Brokeback Mountain has been and continues to roll out this film very slowly. They are presently (January 13) playing only 683 locations across the nation and last week only 484. A typical wide release film will play 2000 or more theatres. Studios use a slow release pattern (called a platform release) at times to create “want to see” or to take advantage of a special event like the Academy Awards. The Academy will announce the nominations on Tuesday, January 31, 2006. Because of the nominations Focus is expanding more and we have been able to secure a print for our Carmike 15 in Columbus to open this film on Friday, January 20. Thank you for contacting Carmike Cinemas. Sincerely, Bob Scarborough Film Buyer Carmike Cinemas, Inc. bscarborough@carmike.com I don't feel like a hick! I live in a Red state, but a Blue city!
