I'm sick of the media and this Bi-Sexual Black male image they are constantly drilling at us. Another step in the De-Masculating of the brothers, fuck the WWE!

I take it you watch wrestling...I don't know how long you have been watching it but you really should not be offended by this....

Vince (WWE owner for those who do not know) does not care whether you are black, white, green, male, donkey, or insect....He will exploit his wrestlers to make money. If you didn't get mad when he did the very same thing to Golddust then why get mad at this? Cause Orlando is black? confused

So far by my count Vince has unleashed the following wrestling skits upon us...

Rape...
Sex with dead people...
Miscarriages...
Suicide...
Had an wrestler fall 30 feet to his death by accident at a pay per view and STILL continued the show.....
Various Gay and Bisexual angles...
Staged Car accidents...
Anti American, Russian, Islamic, and every other damn country skits and characters...
Hinting about sex with his own daughter
Making wrestlers simulate sex with elderly women
Just 2 weeks ago had 2 wrestlers (male and female) simulate sex in a bed in the middle of the ring...

And that is just off the top of my head....And your offended by a bi-sexual storyline?
clever clever quotation - attention getting quote - sad yet witty remark - look at me! Im deep quote- song lyric about my ex cause that bitch stole my mp3 player! - line from movie I liked - Prince lyric - not very clever sig mocking other sigs

while it's true that a real man will admit to his sexuality, no matter what it may be, there is something to be said about the de-masculating angle of this kind of storyline. oftentimes in the mainstream media black men are depicted as either being a horrible threat to society, asexual, or the cute gay guy. The heterosexual, non criminal, black male is somewhat of a rarity. Even though this kind of stereotyping isn't as common as it once was, it's still out there and having a bisexual wrestler isn't really a step up. I doubt that this storyline is going to be presented with any sort of dignity. sigh

Well, of course it's not going to be presented with any level of dignity. It's wrestling! If wrestling was normally a very dignified, serious sport and the "storylines" given a sincere treatment, but this one bisexual storyline made silly I'd think it something to worry about. But that's not the case. lol

Maybe I misinterpreted what you'd said, but I have a lot of problems with the assumption that saying a black man is or might be gay or bi is "de-masculating" for a few reasons. The biggest of which is the implication that only straight men can really be masculine, as if all queer men are screaming nelly queens.

I'm sure you didn't mean it like that though. smile

So if a man is bi but comes out as gay because it's socially simpler, he's a "real" man? wink

well, not exactly. i know that in real life most black men who are gay are not screaming queens and i do not automatically equate being gay with not being masculine. But as i said in my intial post, the mainstream media loves emasculated black men and what better way for the mainstream media to emasculate a man than by making him out to be gay. I don;t really see bisexuality to be a huge step up from that, especially when it's coming from the WWE.

The same media that portrays pamela anderson as being beautiful isn't going to portray a bisexual or homosexual guy as being anything but a gross stereotype.

I'm actually rather upset that you would read such ignorance into my post, especially considering my other posts about this subject and the fact that my initial post said nothing about actual gay men and only their portrayal in the mainstream media. sometimes i feel like you need to put your defenses down a bit. not everyone hates homosexuals and bisexuals. geesh.

Sorry you feel that way. I hardly think the worst thing the media can do to emasculate a black man (or really any man) or make him look bad is to say he might like boys. What IS this obsession with being emasculated, anyway? You're only what people say you are if you start to believe it yourself, and the only person who'd believe homosexuality is emasculating isn't going to be one who's exactly gay friendly.

You're only what people say you are if you start to believe it yourself, and the only person who'd believe homosexuality is emasculating isn't going to be one who's exactly gay friendly.

i think you're missing my point. i personally don't think that being gay equals being esmaculated. however, there's more than one person who thinks that it is and believes that any man who is gay is not really a man. This belief is popular in many cultures, including american culture. this belief is changing and more people are becoming openminded about sexuality and making it less of an issue. but it seems to me that the emasculated black screaming queen is a stereotype that the media loves and is hestitant to give up. The flagrant stereotype that exists in the media isn't nearly as prevailant in the real world. However, because of the constant stereotype that is projected by the media, people do automatically equate gay men with not being masculine, don't you see that? It's not like these people hate gay people, they're just responding to what they know and what they know happens to be on TV.

Look at the success of brokeback mountain. That movie is about two men who don't fit the media's gay stereotype and people loved it. I bet there are many people who went into that movie with less than clear thoughts about homosexuality and came out of it with a completely different mindset. The media can change people's minds if it wants to but it rarely ever does and I think that this wrestling storyline is an example of that.

One of the reasons that i enjoyed the show six feet under as much as i did is because they had a black character who was gay and it wasn't really much of an issue. he wasn't feminine in the least, he was just a man who was trying to work out his relationship with another man. For me, it was refreshing to see a black gay man treated with such respect. If this character was feminine, that would have been fine, too just as long as he was presented as a whole person and not defined solely by his sexuality.

All I'm saying is that this wrestling crap fits with the emasculating of the black male in the media. I know that there have been some academic writing on this subject and entire courses about it at certain colleges and universities. It usually seems to fall under a race issue instead of a sexuality issue even though it's both, but whatever.

also, homosexualiy in the black community is a huge, ugly issue. I'm not saying that it's all hunky dory in other culture's either, but i'm not speaking of them right now. saying a black man is gay actually can be one of the worst things you can say about him, depending on who you say it to. it could cost him his life. You may want to read up on sexuality in the black community, i think you would find it very interesting and may even spark some of your intellectual threads, which i tend to enjoy reading.

You can't take sexuality out of its cultural context, you just can't. and i get the feeling that you don't really understand the culture that clearly. Please don't take it as an insult, it's just the impression that i'm getting.

Believe me, I'm not trying to say that's what you think.

I guess because my whole life I've been around gay and gay-friendly people I've had very little exposure to true homophobia or even really the way it's handled by the general public and the media. I admit that I've sort of lived in a bubble in this regard, so I have a hard time wrapping my mind around why being falsely accused of being gay is such a big deal to some people.

Sorry you feel that way. I hardly think the worst thing the media can do to emasculate a black man (or really any man) or make him look bad is to say he might like boys. What IS this obsession with being emasculated, anyway? You're only what people say you are if you start to believe it yourself, and the only person who'd believe homosexuality is emasculating isn't going to be one who's exactly gay friendly.

i think you're missing my point. i personally don't think that being gay equals being esmaculated. however, there's more than one person who thinks that it is and believes that any man who is gay is not really a man.

Well, now that you've explained yourself more clearly, I see your point. Don't agree, but I understand where you are coming from.

As for the wrasslin' thing, I don't watch it, so I can't say how it will be treated. If they make him a major badass who kicks all the straight white boy's asses, then it may be a complete reversal of the stereotype.

Hell, I think wrasslin' is nothing but a repressed homosexual "sport" anyway. Buncha big, beefy guys are all oiled up and jumping on each other? Sounds pretty gay to me!
