I don't see what the big deal is. Whether women post sexy pics of other women or of themselves, in the end they're just avatars. I don't think we should read too much into it, not because they may not be an indication of something more than just whimsically chosen small pics next to screen names, but because it's a terrible bore to do so.
Mine isn't of me, obviously, but I just really like the pic. The little kitten running through the grass needed a vacation and who am I to deny him that? He's been good to me.

AnotherLoverToo said: XxAxX said: i like the actual pics of actual ORGers. what i don't get is how, if a woman is expressing her sexuality freely, she accomplishes this end by using the cartoon barbie-style image of female beauty I totally get you. It's not that you think female nudity is shameful, it's that so many of the images used are so unrealistic--big fake tits, teeny waist, board-flat stomach. It would be nice to see either the real orger or something more representative of a "real" female to symbolize her. ((yet that's probably part of it--we want to think of ourselves as the idealized version of femininity rather than see ourselves as we truly are physically)) [Edited 1/14/06 11:54am] Doing my part to keep it real... Mine was insprired by me trying to feel better about my body and not feeling ashamed or not worthy. To stop comparing it to the models that we all see with fake parts. With the new year I am trying to appeciate what I've got and not compare it to the images seen on magazines. Time to celebrate what we've got and stop putting it down.

I was sort of dared to do something really out of character for me. I figured- what the hell, I probably will never meet any of you guys. If I do, I am sure they will not remember my ass posted in an avie. It was sort of liberating to do something new & different for the new year. First time I have ever taken a pic of myself like that. I think everyone should be free to express themselves through there avie any way they want to unless they offend someone with the pic. If anyone is offended by my avie- orgnote me and I will remove as soon as possible.. actually it's really tastefully done. now that's feminist porn. and i mean that nicely Thanks!

I don't necessary agree with that.... I think sexuality should be INCLUDED and not excluded. Sexuality is part of the package, it's not something you turn on and off depending on your politics. Keeping yourself under a wrap on a stage, reading a poem about vaginas? Sex is power, and if you've got the power, use it to your advantage. FYI, I consider myself a feminist. What? Why the laughter? From Ocean herself too. Alright, so I'm a bare anything man, but backs are 'anything' too.

Get with the new feminism, XxAxX! The kind that says I have a choice to put forth what I want. That I am a sexual being in addition to having a brain and character and a personality. That I can be smart and moral AND sassy and sexy and so on and all that I want to be. I agree there are approriate forums for expressing such things, but this being a casial (as in non business) atmosphere, I think this is one of those places. |

I getcha. Yeah, totally missed that. lol. But, I see both sides of the coin on this one. I once had a near naked Bjork in my profile pic. Why? Cause it was a gorgeous picture of one of my most favorite artists. I appreciate her beauty, and the beauty of the photographers. Of course, she really doesn't represent a barbie doll, cookie cutter image. So that doesn't go along with what you're saying... But I did get lots and lots of 'Is that you? You're HOT!' orgnotes and emails. It always surprised me. |
