That very well may be, however I wasn't referring to avatars. My point was to combine the characteristics of a "feminist" laid out by XxAxX ("feminists prefer to be appreciated for their intelligence, personality, character...") and Rhondab ("I think sexuality should be INCLUDED..."). Very Paglia. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I agree!!!! I went out on a limb with mine. I have a few reasons for my new avie. It is me and not another women. I was sort of dared to do something really out of character for me. I figured- what the hell, I probably will never meet any of you guys. If I do, I am sure they will not remember my ass posted in an avie. It was sort of liberating to do something new & different for the new year. First time I have ever taken a pic of myself like that. I think everyone should be free to express themselves through there avie any way they want to unless they offend someone with the pic. If anyone is offended by my avie- orgnote me and I will remove as soon as possible..

Interesting points, all, but XxAxX, why ask why?
I'd hate for questions & arguments like yours to cause all the models of the world to decide "you know, I'm not going to let myself be an object of desire anymore, I want to write bitter poetry." Okay, I'm only half serious, but a healthy expression of male & female sexuality, even if it is based on stereotypical gender roles, is not only okay, but very pleasant. As long as women aren't forced to assume those roles, I think many they can accept them just as men accept masculine roles. Check this song out at:

We'll there's been many who would agrue that "hookers" in many ways are more "feminist" than women who trade sex for love. And every expression of the female form isn't anti feminist nor does it need to be deemed "hookerish". I just use pics of me in my avvies....maybe its vain....maybe its anti-feminist...but who really cares.

A woman having the power to make her own choices. (without being restricted by men or other women for that matter) I haven't read any of the discussion on this thread but came straight to the bottom and read this. ... I just have to say "I love you"

I WISH I looked like this! Yes it gets me more attention than my robot avvies ever did, AND I even had to make a petition to use it. I like this photo because I wanted my avvie over the summer to say "beach-bum", and this one SO does. and XxAxX, you say sure. but in the normal course of business we don't expose our breasts and genitals to strangers, right?
since when is anything NORMAL in at the ORG Someone said to me kudos for using this avvie, as a mum of three it shows another dimension to me other than "mother"?

It's not that you think female nudity is shameful, it's that so many of the images used are so unrealistic--big fake tits, teeny waist, board-flat stomach. It would be nice to see either the real orger or something more representative of a "real" female to symbolize her. ((yet that's probably part of it--we want to think of ourselves as the idealized version of femininity rather than see ourselves as we truly are physically)) [Edited 1/14/06 11:54am]
