Sometimes people break my heart. Especially if they're out there w/ children, which could be all a game but it gets to me. I usually pony up for them.

A dude last week was eyeballing my wallet as I put change in the meter. I didn't give him any, it took a good 20 seconds for him to stop staring @ the wallet. sad

That is the worst for me too!!! I see so many scragly kids with fucked up parents on the bus. Not too long ago there was a couple of dudes lugging cans for recycling on the bus and they had the most adorable little girl with them. Her face was all dirty and she was holding a dilapidated ragdoll and I my heart was just falling to pieces. I gave them a $20 and told them to have a nice dinner. I mean at least those guys were looking for cans and they didn't ask for money but I could not stomach the thought of them not having food that night, especially with that little girl cry

oh god, i would have wept.
i am way too empathetic

Well let me say this....sometimes I feel a little "something" although I don't know if it's guilt. A few months ago I was headed out for a service call, and a man was stuck on the on-ramp to the freeway flagging people down...well me anyways. So I asked what was up and he had this REALLY well rehearsed story about running out of gas, and he needed to get to some place that was miles away...asked if I could help...also his "daughter" was asleep in the back of his van and I could verify it if I wanted to....needless to say I gave him what I had (without being sceptical).... leaving on my way feeling good about the moment.

I saw the same guy...in the same place 2 days later....with an accomplice...hussling again....I felt a little used for a second...then I thought to myself...he must have really needed that money more than I to be doing what he was doing.....I just chuckled and wished him well..... shrug

i feel guilty just living some days. knowing there are people in this country and other who don't have hot running water or electricity. or even food and shelter. there but for the grace of god...

i don't carry much cash these days but i try to give a buck or two when i meet an older street person. one old lady i used to buy cups of tea and bites of cake for at the cafe. she never could remember who i was but that was fine. we spent a lot of time getting acquainted. i haven't seen her in ages though..

anyway the thing that really bugs me is why, if we can wage a trillion dollar war in iraq, can't we fund a more effective safety net for own citizens?

Amen, preach it, girl, you are soo right! nod

When I used to work downtown, I used to give people food and money. Downtown Cleveland has a lot of homeless people standing on street corners begging, and it breaks my heart. sad

I've read stories about beggers in Cleveland getting violent and really angry when people don't give them money. I guess this one begger asked this guy for money, and when the guy turned the begger down, the begger threw something at him! omfg boxed Thank God I've never had that happen to me, probably because if I don't have anything to give a homeless person that day, I kind of keep walking and don't respond to them when they try to beg me to give them something.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I give money to people on the street who ask for it, as well as doing other things for charities whenever I can. Even though I'm unemployed right now, I've got a safe house to live in with a nice, warm bed, bills that get paid on time, and food whenever I want it. That's not to mention loving family and friends, more clothes than I know what to do with and an impending month long trip to Europe. With all I have, I couldn't justify not doing what I can to help others. There's no excuse not to.
