Life of Pi

Has anyone else read this amazing book?

I absolutely love it. nod

And it's being made into a movie next year with Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who brought us Amelie, on board as screenwriter and director! I'm already excited. I think it would be incredible on-screen.

Thoughts?

I loved it, but I was bored from about page 50-100. I had to trust all of the good reviews to keep going, but I was glad I did.

No there's a lot of religious discussion that bored me.

I liked it. Gave it as a chistmas-present this year, so that means I liked it. (unless I really hate the person I gave the present to, which wasn't the case)

No there's a lot of religious discussion that bored me.

I remember thinking the same thing and asked my wife (who had just finished reading it) if there was much of this religious bollocks - I was about to abandon it. She told me to keep going, and I'm glad I did. The religious stuff doesn't go on that long (I don't remember 50 pages of it anyway), and the rest of the book is excellent.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

I was also unsure when I read about the religious stuff...but then it makes sense in the end in view of his whole point - seeing and believing, etc.

I'm glad to see others (besides critics) liked it, as well!

Did the ending make you mad at all? I've read reviews on websites from readers who felt cheated. I thought it was brilliant.

The majority of it is about the son of a zookeeper, Pi, who is a castaway on a lifeboat with a tiger.

Sounds boring, but his being stranded in the middle of the Pacific is the part that made me turn the pages quickest.

I did have a hard time with the first 50 pages and I kept putting it down. When they are on the Pacific is when it really picks up.

I was okay with 1-50, it was 50-100 that was tough for me. Then it picked up quickly.

I already returned my copy to the library, so I was just estimating on the pages. It may have actually been that period that bored me. I don't know...but as soon as he was on the Pacific, I was hooked.

Indeed. I had faith that since everyone told me how great it was that I'd just keep on reading it, and they were right!
