Soul Mates? What are the characteristics of one?

hmm

Really, what IS a soul mate and how do you know when you found one, him, them? lol

Do you have only ONE or are there many. I would assume with a free spirit one may find many?! hmmm

how many people are there on this earth? billions! and usually you find your soul mate within a 100km radius of where you live. This causes me to believe there must be more than one per person nod

Chances are you've met through a set of unusual circumstances that were totally unplanned and unexpected.

There is a powerful, instantaneous feeling that you have known the other before.

You felt an immediate and deep connection for one another.

There is an electrifying feeling between the two of you that words cannot describe.

The relationship is immediate, as though no time had been lost since you were last together.

It feels as though you had never really lived before the reunion occurred.

You feel a deep sense of sacredness and unity with God that you've have never known before.

It brings on feelings you never thought possible.

The two of you are inseparable.

When you look into each other's eyes, time and space have no meaning.

There are no barriers between the two of you. The relationship is a totally open one.

Your conversations seem to go on forever.

The two of you have a strong urge to serve humanity in a deep and meaningful way.

You give to the other and never think of receiving in return.

There is a special sacredness to your relationship that transcends anything you've ever experienced before.

You still have karma with your twin from previous lives, but the two of you resolve it all with total forgiveness and unconditional love.

Neither one of you are dependent on the other for your sense of self.

There is a strong sense of unlimitedness eternity to your feelings.

Your feelings for each other are very spiritual.

There are no restrictions within the relationship. All is freedom without the need for ownership or control.

The two of you know without doubt that you have been brought together for a reason.

You do not compete with one another nor do you pretend to be other than who you are.

In spite of your sameness, there is no doubt you feel a sense of completion through the other.

Trust, patience and acceptance of each other's weaknesses happen automatically.

There is a great sense of purpose and meaning to the relationship.

Your sexuality with one another is a sacred act that celebrates the unconditional love you have for one another.

The two of you become more and more one, without losing your individual identities.

When you look into the other's eyes, you see yourself.

You experience a sense of completeness that is without comparison.

The degree of intimacy and friendship the two of you develop is without parallel.

You recognize that the two of you are Godmates.

nod I've always felt that there are different matching 'halves' to the half that is me, they can match in different ways. As friends, lovers, twins, co-workers etc... sadly though, I think we too often mistake a soul mate friend for a lover, I mean that we try to make everything into a relationship where sex is included. That's natural but not necessary.

I don't think there are any for sure characteristics. I think a person would just "know" it.

I think charlottegelin and Teacher hit the nail on the head. nod

I think soul mates can come in many guises - friends, lovers, colleagues, whatever. I think, traditionally, we're meant to think that only lovers will have this special quality. I know people who - apart from the difference in our sexual orientation - I would spend the rest of my life with in a heartbeat. Except we don't fancy each other. And I'd definitely class them as 'soul mates'.

Personally - along the lines with charlotte - I don't believe in the concept of 'The One'. I know that seems unromantic (and someone once called me that when we had this debate rolleyes ) but I find it hard to believe that you're destined to find that one person who you're completely 100% compatible with. How many people are there in this world? 6 billion? And you have to be in exactly the right place, at exactly the right time, in exactly the right part of the world for that to happen? Nu-uh. It's called chemistry. And that can happen anywhere.

I don't know if this'll make sense but someone once said to me that - instead of having one, single person to relate to - maybe there are several 'The Ones'.

For example, let's take 5 characteristics which someone might be interested in: humour, personality, looks, job, money. (They're not necessarily my choices, but I'm just using them as an example).

Bloke A might have humour, personality, looks and money.
Bloke B might have personality, looks, a good job and money.
Bloke C might have humour, personality, a good job and money.

And so on. If those are the characteristics you're interested in and you find someone with all 5 - bingo! Otherwise, in reality, it might just be the case that different people match different ideals, in different ways. As above.

Plus, if there is such a thing as 'The One', then God help anyone who's ever loved and lost someone. Does that mean that people can never fall in love again? You have you one shot and that's it? Bollocks. People re-marry, find love the second time around, etc all the time. And no-one asks if they're 'The Two'. lol

Just my 2 cents.

... plus I would add that soulmates come into your life whether you recognise them or not and sometimes it happens by a series of apparent coincidences.

I believe we have many soul mates. (See Mach's first post). We belong to soul groups who incarnate with us here in order to support us and we them. Sometimes we have similar lessons to learn, sometimes our greatest teachers teach us through adversity. But on a spiritual level, we are all the same and we all exist in love.

I think there are many people who can fulfill you and make you happy. There are people who you click with more easily and more completely than others! You just happen to be on the same plane as them and it's nice when that happens. It took me 22 years for me to find someone like that and it's funny because he literally lives down the street from me. I stayed in the same town for 17 years, got out, went to school elsewhere, lived in London, and it was only when I came back to my hometown when I found him. It's the same with him, only he's got a number of years on me. Teacher is right, too; the closest I came to this before was with my ex, and we definitely mistook the soulmate friendship for soulmate relationship and that was really fucked! We had a horrendous self destructive relationship for three months, then broke it off. It was so bad that it took us a year to become friends but we've been extremely close for the past three years, longer than I hold on to most of my friends.

personally, I think there are different types of soul connections nod when I was 11 we moved far away from our hometown... where we moved to 2 doors up was boy my age who I would be going to school with. I fell in love with him right away (yes I know it sounds strange for an 11 year old but I will argue black and blue with you that I did and still do) he passed on when we were 19 (10 years ago now) but I believe if he was still around we'd be together and my life would be very, very different. I believe he was and still is my soulmate in love

Then there's friendships you make through life... there are people who touch your heart and very being so much you just KNOW you've known each other for way longer than either of you even realise. I'm very lucky to have a small number of these people I am honoured to call friends nod

two examples... twocents
