BBC America

In the states here we get BBC America which shows British programs.
I've often wondered how much they reflect current British TV?
Especially since many of the shows - Monty Python, Benny Hill, Black Adder to name a few - have been around for years & years.
Cash in the Attic, Changing Rooms, House Invaders, Bargain Hunt, What Not To Wear, Kumars at #42, Creature Comforts, At Home with The Braithwaites, Ab Fab, The Office, Monarch of the Glen, The Catherine Tate Show, The Robinsons - these are some of what are heavily shown . How accurately does this represent British TV? Are we getting the dregs or the best stuff or somewhere inbetween?

I spent 5 years, around 4 months at a time in the States and I watched some BBC America. (I live in England)

It shows a mixture of what we get on daytime TV and some "safe" sitcoms mainly. Some of the shows you mentioned are quite popular over here. I don't think the BBC in England is representative of British TV anymore. They excel at some things like documentaries and News, but seem to drag their feet when it comes to other areas. There are of course exceptions, such as The Office and Little Britain where they seem to define the field.

BBC America is probably somewhere in between the best stuff and the dregs.

Yeah, that's pretty much a broad cross section of entertainment on the BBC, sure.

I'm thinking of starting to accumulate the DVDs for the Tom Baker years that they have out so far. I'd like to get my hands on the "Key to Time" box set.

I don't own any of them. cry
I wish they would show them all in order right from the first ones
I wish they would show all the Red Dwarf episodes again too.In proper order, I hate when they mess up the story lines.

They used to have Doctor Who on every weekday at 5:30pm on PBS channel 2 from Minneapolis/St. Paul back in the early 80s, and they showed every episode from the beginning. That's how I got hooked. They've had it on here and there since then, but there's been a long drought. confused

i lived in Ontario for a year and got hooked there. It was only on once a week though. Hardly ever got to see it when I moved to NY.They had it on PBS here a few years ago as a lead in for Red Dwarf but they didn't show them in order, we never knew which Doctor we were gonna see.

I love Red Dwarf! I own all of them except series 5. I even have the smeg-ups.
I wish they would get around and make the movie mad We've been waiting years for it. I think they're supposed to be making it in Australia, but they can't get all the original cast together at the same time.

red dwarf is cool

Do they show only fools and horses? Awesome show (at one point), the acting is so good between the brothers.....

Eastenders was shown i heard at one point, and apparantly brad pitt and jennifer aniston loved it, and signed a petition to keep it on the air in america. Its a classy soap, for a soap, and has good acting (thought he actors are really only playing themselves)

I like eastenders, and USA has nothing like it. Shame they took it off.
