you mean like this?

well Mazda, and Pontiac's 6 speed sticks are like this too. I test drove the Pontiac G6 GTP 6-Speed this weekend, and it blew my mind!!!! I have a G6 automatic though, i've had for more than a year now....i'd like to upgrade to the 6-speed, but i'm thinking maybe it could wait, i'd hate to go into debt over it...if you know what i mean

Yes.
My current car is a manual.
I learned how to drive one when I bought one from a friend of mine when I was, like 20. I had a half hour lesson in a parking lot and I was on my own. :O It was a tough couple days or so, but I eventually got the hang of it.

I learned on a Porsche a long time ago. Since then I've only driven a manual transmission twice and I didn't do so well! I get embarrassed when I stall or peel out so I stick to the automatic. I do a lot of city driving so I would rather have an automatic anyway.

ahhh you shouldn't give up though...i use to get really upset and embarrassed too when the engine would stall, but it's like when you fall down, u get back up, you just start up the engine, put in 1st gear and try it again.

gosh, you guys make me really want to trade my car in now and get that 6-speed that i really really want....

the only reason why i have an automatic is because at the time when the G6's came out, they didn't make them in stick yet...but now they do....just my luck huh....

I'm a few months from paying off my car and I swear I want to trade it in for another stick.

Yes. In fact, I've never owned a car with a "slushbox" (automatic transmission). All of them have had 5-speed manuals:

  • Fiat Spider 2000
  • Saturn SC
  • Mazda Miata LS
  • BMW 325

I learned how to do it with the Fiat. That car had a very stiff clutch, and if you didn't use it just right, the car would stall. It was frustrating at first, but in hindsight, it was probably a good thing, because it forced me to become very good at driving a stick-shift car.

My BMW was the same way... left of first and then up for reverse.

Most people in Britain learn to drive a stickshift (manual) car.

I'll bet most Americans don't, unfortunately. IMHO an endorsement on their driver's license (obtained by proving one's ability to use a stick shift) should be required for people driving a car equipped with a manual transmission, at least in this country.

I drove my brothers standard escort a few times, but mostly I learned on my Porsche 924 years ago. Took that little car out the night I bought it dark and rainy and kept stalling and stalling
