LESTAT - THE MUSICAL

Oh lawd. I went to see this last night at the Curran Theater in San Francisco. The first half was very melodramatic. The music was derivative. The second half was a little better. It was more energetic. The music was better although it did sound a little Rent-ish.

My problem was mostly the "feel" of the movie. I think it should've been dark with sarcastic humor. The movie ran the gamut of melodramatic to slapstick to cheesy. The singing was good although the lead was very cliche Broadway singer. I guess he had previously done PHANTOM.

The actress who played GABRIEL, LESTAT'S mom, was pretty incredible.

It's on its way to Broadway in March. I think there needs to be major changes before it goes on.

...I'm only sayin'

Oh, you were talking about both the movie and the musical. I thought you were talking about one thing. "The Vampire Lestat" was never a movie. You're talking about "Queen Of The Damned" which the filmakers foolishly tried to combine with "The Vampire lestat" Anne wrote two books for a reason. They should have stuck with that concept. The movie never explained Lestat's background. The fact they had Gabrielle in the movie but never explained who she was is just acinine

The musical is part The Vampire Lestat and Interview With A Vampire. It was kind of just a mess.

So, you wouldn't recommend it? Did it cover Lestat's childhood at all? Are Louis, Claudia, and Armand in it?

I always tell people to make up their own minds. Just try to get cheap tickets. It starts almost right when Lestat gets bitten. Louis, Claudia and Armand, Magnus, Marius, Gabrielle. They're all in it.

I totally had a psychic moment at the show. When they introduced Claudia all I can think of is the line from the book and movie, "I want more!" Well, lo and behold the next song was called "I want more." It actually worked. It was pretty funny and the girl/woman playing the part soldit.

It isn't but the tickets are hella expensive. I lucked out and bought $80 tix. I bought one for my best friend for X-Mas. Some tickets are going for $230.

Please tell me it is more true to the book.

I hated it in the Queen of the Damned movie when they said Marius made Lestat

that just irked me because in all of the chronicles it is mentioned over and over and over again that Lestat is a bastard and never learned anything from his creator.

Hopefully it will be better once it hits broadway.

We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.

I think I love the novel too much to see this sh*t.

It's my favorite in Rice's vampire chronicles. You do not give me hope that it will be treated with reverence hmph!
