Okay, Orgers, provocative question of the day. Sometimes you hear about a situation where a married or otherwise "heterosexual" woman becomes involved in a relationship with another woman and it is attributed to her former male partner driving her to lesbianism. The relationship either ended badly or was bad throughout and some will say that this directly causes the woman to turn to other women for companionship. Is this an urban legend or does this actually happen?

What this is supposing is that there are guys that would give women such a bad taste in their mouth that they would change their whole sexual identity because of it. Women who supposedly never had any lesbian experiences beforehand saying "God, that was horrible...I think I'll try chicks for a while." Is this possible? Do you believe a relationship could be so sour that it could cause a change in sexual preference or, in instances like this, the women already had bisexual or homosexual leanings beforehand but just never explored them? Also, why does this situation not happen as much with guys? You don't hear as much about a girl "turning" a guy gay due to a bad relationship.

The Captain wants to know your thoughts on this.

Well I think it is definately easier for a woman to change teams than men....I mean dam...look at women.. all soft and sexy...they smell nice....

I digress....

I think that anyone that changes from a hetero relationship to a gay relationship has always been gay...to me it is simple...there is no in between...you are either gay...or you are not....

I believe in these situations the women usually were not heterosexual. I do not believe that anyone can make someone "go" gay or lesbian. I believe it is hard wired into the brain, and you can deny or bury it but if it's there it is there.

My niece went through that. she was "hetero" because it was expected and after a series of horrible relationships, drug abuse etc.. she decided to stop lying about everything including her sexuality.

She came out as a bisexual, was in a HEALTHY relationship with a woman for 8 years to include a civil union, and when that ended she met someone who happened to be a man. The were recently married. Her former partner has visitation rights to the children, gets spousal support and got a house when they broke up.

we as a family were reluctant at first but after she made it clear that this was what she wanted everyone was supportive.

Her mother actually has more problems with the marriage that she is in now
but he is a great guy and is very supportive of my niece and her children.
