I miss Howard Stern.

I thought I was ready for a break from Howard after 15 years on & off. But this first week has shown me that everybody else's morning shows are all the same mix of music and stupid jokes. Even Al Frankin was on vacation. I don't want to blast music in the morning. I never thought I'd get Sirius, but now I'm thinking about it.

I wonder if they'll be able to pay Howard his 500 mil.

Though as I come closer to breaking down, I wonder how many others are, too.

I wanted to give Adam Carolla here in LA a fair shot... but these past few days have been really awful. I like Adam too - love dhim on Loveline and onhis TLC show and with Jimmy Kimmel on the Man Show... but so far morning radio sucks!

I just bought my Sirius radio receiver/boombox today woot!

I WILL HAVE HOWARD BACK ON MONDAY JANUARY 9, 2006!

I couldn't find Adam Carolla. Is he on before 9?

I can't figure out what kind of system I'd get. Car? Home? Portable? That's stopping me, also.

But I really want to hear the first show in particular.

Adam is on 97.1 KLSX in LA. He's on 6am to 10am, I think.

Today Adam had Kathy Griffin on and it was the first entertaining show so far... but during commericals I flipped on my satellite receiver and HOWARD WAS ON AIR! The Tuner said "Howard in Studio 69 - LIVE REHEARSAL" - they were just all there testing mikes and phones etc... setting "proper modulation" biggrin I was so THRILLED to hear them that I was late inot work (haven't connect my car antenna yet rolleyes) SOmeone from NY called in and said that even Howard's test run was better radio that David Lee Roth - eek

I had a hard time choosing a receiver - but once it was discovered my home stereo couldn't accomodate the home antenna - my choice was easy. I got a Sirius made Sportster boombox and the receiver came with a car kit. The whole thing is bascially a plug and play deal. What I liked about it was that you can take it anywhere and are NOT restricted to a home or car set up. A friend helped me (I am an elctronics novice) and said it was VERY simple to prepare - and it only took a few minutes to activate the subscription online. I'm gonna hook up the car antenna over the weekend.

Most receivers come with a car kit and you'll need to buy a home kit separately (that's the price gouge there) Sanyo has an all in one car and home package - very inexpensive but the reviews weren't good on the unit's performance.

Good luck and happy listening!

I'd put a satellite radio on your birthday wish list if I were you whistle - the span of music and talk shows (and sports if you're into that) is amazing! Plus HOWARD?!?!? I'm thrilled with my decision to go satellite! woot!

I love Diamond Dave, but radio isn't for him. I defy anyone to listen to his show for more than five minutes.

It makes you realize what an innovator Howard is - love him or hate him, he changed the face of radio in America. Howard at his worst is better than what's on now. Serves these radio suits right for bending over for the FCC and these far-right d---heads.

I'm getting my hands on that Sirius boombox soon.

whistling Yup! Well... I have a 45 minute reply feature (sorta like TiVo)... so if I am in the car and a bit is coming that I want to hear but I reached my destination... I can set it and possibly catch most or all of it later.

EXACTLY! clapping woot!

I have to say that today was the first day Adam Carolla was OK... but he has this annoying crew that chime in (ala Howard's group) but aren't nearly as funny. It's like a watered-down version of Stern with a smattering of wit. Also, Adam is recycling his old Loveline rants and material... but he made grow into it and be the better alternative to Mark and Brian or Kevin and Bean on LA terrestrial bands... Good Christ, we truly suffered on LA radio before we got Howard.

Here in Ct there is some loser named Sebastian on in Howard's place. I cannot stand him. His conversation is inane AND contrived. A bad combination. And he is so NOT funny.

I miss Howard too. I just didn't want to take on another bill!! Argh!

I am so damn annoyed at this "free" FM crap. It's especially ironic when they really aren't free at all. Sure you can turn the dial on and it won't cost you but the electricity or batteries to run the radio, but the broader issue of freedom is just squelched by all the radio companies that would rather eat the shit shoveled down their throat by the religious right and the FCC instead of taking those rackateers on in the courts.

And the most frustrating thing about this crap is that over 90% of the complaints to the FCC are from groups that send out form letters and encourage their members to submit complaints, even if they don't get the show in their markets!. I hate these goddamned busy body Mrs. Kravitzes and the sooner this country turns on those motherfuckers the better. Using children as an excuse to try and run everybody's damn lives rolleyes

It is amazing to me that they will be the first person to tell a homeless or single mother about the virtues of personal responsibility and then they are the most irresponsible people alive who cannot be personally responsible for what does or does not enter their own households and leave it to the government to do their parenting.

The radio industry definitely bent over and let the FCC have their way with them. Threatening not to renew liscences if they don't comply with their unconstitutional "decency guidelines" or pay the outrageous fines. It makes no sense - advertisers are paying top dollar for shows like Stern because obviously a lot more people are listening to it (fans) and the ratings are high - than are complaining about it. It truly is racketeering.

The "free" I'm sure is to try and tell people that they don't have to PAY for radio entertainment - in the meantime they shove all that advertising down your throat - which I understand, radio is a business afterall, but I SWEAR there are way more commerical breaks in Adam Carolla's morning show than were on Stern. I think Stern grouped them together and spaced them throughout his show so that the quality wasn't effected.

People should exercise their own in-house censorship and government should let free speech and expression be what it is. What is this becoming? Nazi Germany?

How has radio been cleaned up anyway? It seems trashier than ever. Just because most pop songs don't mention the FCC and Howard Stern does?

And the biggest problem of all is the lack of freedom for a dj to even play the music they want to. It's like there's an ever decreasing song pool to choose from that is allowed on the radio.

F&^% ClearChannel!!!!

I think a lot of fans are realizing that now. Howard had a test show (possibly two) where he and the gang messed around with the equipment. I heard most of it. It was by no means a real show and Howard kept holding back a lot of comments until monday (which I can't wait for!). One woman called in and said she just got her Sirius radio and activated it. She said she had been waiting and couldn't take it. Howard was about to comment on that and asked her "Why she waited"...you could tell he was going to go into a tirade. I think the next week, a lot of Sirius radios will be sold!

I haven't even given my new guy a chance. I think his name is Rodney or some shit. I could honestly care less. I was kind of down on the Sirius for a while but I've really been getting into it lately. What the heck has hell has been playing on Howard's show for the last day? It's like this cryptic music with talk about Howard over it. Get back to replaying his reharsal or even Howard 100 News. what does everyone think of Howard 100 News? I think it's too much and he needs good programing stat...I don't know if he'll be able to pull that off...I think only Stern's show will be worth listening to.
