The reason that quitting smoking is hard for people is that they obsess over it. All they think about all day long is how they are quitting smoking and that's all they can talk about or think about.
People psyche themselves out by thinking its going to be so hard. I quit smoking after a pack and a half a day for 8 years by just stopping smoking. I didn't really let myself obsess about it (no threads no talking about it, no talking endlessly about it with my friends or family, no patches, or gum, etc) and I only ended up quitting the one time. So many start and stop so many times that it becomes easy to start and stop. I know I am strong so quitting was easy. I didn't allow myself to be crabby so I wasn't. It's actaully very simple so don't make it any harder then that.

What did bother me was the habit itself of putting something in my mouth especially when I was nervous or stressed. I admit I used food as a supplement. When I realized what the deep problem was hehind both, I got control of even THAT, the food. I realized my body was more important, I started looking at myself from the inside out. I have been smoke free for about 14 years now and I excercise on a regular basis.. Cborg: .. Think from the inside OUT.

Keep going Chris, you'll make it! Just think about the fact that some day when I finally get to meet you I can give you a kiss on the lips (I hope that's not a deterrant )

It's not so hard after the first few days, once the drug is out of your system.
The hard part is that quitting is an everyday choice. It's been a year for me (this time) and I still have to resist temptation. It's worth it, though. I see people smoking by themselves, and the look on their face when they take a drag is not a look of happiness. Other than at parties (when people are drunk and/or having fun), how many joyful smokers do you really ever see? [Edited 1/3/06 11:02am] Check this song out at:

nicotine withdrawls. You whole body isn't tingling because of nicotine withdrawls. It is because your body is getting OXIGEN that it is been lacking due to restricted blood vessles from smoking. As you body returns to normal you will find you have more energy and such shit. What I did to help quit smoking was go online and find the nastiest deseased lung picture from smoking. Save it to your computer, or even put it on your desk top. Every time you think about smoking, look at the picture. P.S. I was quit for two years that way, but I am smoking now. I started to finish college. LOL News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

You'll be amazed at how great you feel after 3 weeks.
3 months and you'll feel even better. People will treat you differently (better) too because most people can differentiate smokers from non and healthy people generally get more respect because they respect themselves. 3 years and you'll have a hard time believing you were once addicted and will be quite happy with yourself for having done so much and enjoyed life in the moments that used to be "smoking time".

You should get some Valium or Xanax. It will help take the edge off.
I just opened my last pack. I've got (have had for months) a box of Commit 4mg lozenges, but they are soooo nasty and they make me sick to my stomach. I have to spit it out just after a few minutes. And talk about a damn buzz! Good luck baby! Socks still got butt like a leather seat...

a good idea? someone trying to rid themselves of one drug by using another? personally, i wouldn't go the sedative route...easy to get addicted to those...however, coffee and chamomile at appropriate times and of course not at the same time, helped me quit a year ago. . [Edited 1/3/06 22:50pm]

With all due respect... that is BULLSHIT... I quit smoking more than a year ago... and I'm certain I don't feel healthier or fitter than before... I'm sure that in the long run it will increase my chances of reaching a respectable age... but in the meantime it sucks... Only thing keeping me from starting again are my children... the guilt would fuckin' kill me before any cigarette would... Me? Frustrated? No way!

I quit smoking 3 years ago (after 8 years of heavy smoking and 10 years of smoking) and I have since run 3 marathons (all under 3 1/2 hours). Unless you are insanely out of shape to be noticibly fitter you have to excersize but there is no way I could have ran marathons while smoking. Although if you were to be honest I would bet that you find walking up stairs easier then you did before (unless you have other issues). . [Edited 1/4/06 12:27pm]

[/b] I admit I do have more "breath"... but people screaming at smokers that if they stop they will feel "reborn" are full of shit... (and I do exercise).. A marathon in 3,5 hours... that pretty good huh?
