do you watch what you do around other types of people?

i'm black, and i like to eat watermelon and chicken. but when i'm around other people, i get hesitant about what i'm doing, as not to have somebody give me that "SEE!" look. anybody else ever catch themselves doing this (not necessarily in a racial way, but just in a general kind of way)
you look better on your facebook page than you do in person hmph!

sounds like you care about what people think about the "real" you. The answer to your question, no i don't really have to "watch" what I do around other people because i just don't give a fuck. I'm gonna be me no matter what!!!!
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

i try not to pick my nose around other people. it's a german thing... biggrin

seriously, though... i do try to watch my mental process around others. i have a tendency (VERY German, even the Germans on this board will agree!) to be judgmental of people. the buddhist side of me of course battles this every day, and sometimes it takes a conscious effort on my part not to get annoyed at people's self-indulgence, ego and lack of compassion.

then again, i have to work on my own self-indulgence, ego and lack of compassion. guess it's true what they say about the things that bother you about other people being the things that bother you about yourself...

peace

Well...considering that the majority of my family has no clue that i'm gay, yeah, i watch how i act around them. Case in point, my mother came to visit a couple of weeks ago and wanted to go to the mall. Well the first big strike against me is that i have dated half the people who work at the mall. And I'm still on "huggin" basis with 98% of them. But anyway, one of my "friends" came up to me in Hollister and acted like he wanted to give me a hug and ask how i was, thankfully he got the message when i started pointing and shaking my head behind my mothers back. It turned out to be just a handshake & a "How u doin?" Oh & did I ever tell ya about the time my parents made a "suprise" visit and I had to hide my bf at the time in my bedroom? giggle I should just come out and say fuck it. hmm

Not insecure. I just don't want people to think i am dating an ugo or Plain Jane. I have overheard other people make fun of situations like that and i have friends who have done that and i even have to admit that i have done it. And i don't want people doing it to me. it's another example for the topic of the thread.

Well, my mother called today and told me her computer had crashed and needed my password. Sad 2 say, when I lived at home, I had quiet the collection of "Adult" material on there....So I'm guessin when they finally hack my password they will see more than they ever wanted to. But my entire family knows that I do not have very many str8 friends and my mother loves my best friend. shrug who knows. I do go & pick out my mothers clothing and she DOES refuse to get her hair cut without me. Maybe the not having a girlfriend thing since like 96 tips 'em off also. lol who knows.

Awww...spanks...I do have an aunt & uncle & 4 redneck cousins who know. They all accept me, but I just think it would be harder for my parents to take. And I would never dream of taking home one of my dates. no no no! That would just tear London, KY all 2 hell & back. falloff

wow, i never tied all that to being german...especially not the nose-picking etiquette! lol

i do have different "masks" for different situations or environments, mainly because i'm very protective of my "real" self and i don't feel the need to constantly explain my behavior, sense of humor, cultural references, etc. - so if i'm in a setting where i don't think i'll be understood or accepted, i will tend to go into a bit of a "blank" mode, where i only express myself in ways that are useful to the environment. it just makes life easier, even though it kinda sucks.

Of course. We all play roles according to who we're around and talking to. The rules of conversation and behaviour change quite radically, I've found. I tend not to whip my penis out in front of my family, whereas when I'm with my wife that's a regular occurance. biggrin
