Simple Solutions for Better Skin NATURAL SKIN CARE SOLUTIONS - OPEN UP YOUR KITCHEN CABINETS
Here are a just a few natural skin care solutions for you to try. You'll be very pleased with the results: -once a week, rub your skin with baking soda while in the shower, for a smooth, silky feeling. You can also do this on your face to remove black heads. -fresh tomatoes are great for the oily areas of your face. (Please make sure to try the tomato juice on your arm first, as your skin may be sensitive to it). Rinse thoroughly immediately after using the tomato juice. -for a great moisturizer try olive oil: this healthy fat is good for you, and is great for your skin. You can also use it to soothe sunburned skin. -vinegar can work wonders for smelly feet and armpits. Mix water and vinegar 50/50, and use in place of deodorant: it will keep the unpleasant sweat smell away, without any irritation. As for your feet, if you suffer with athlete's foot, a week of vinegar foot bath will help a lot, sometimes completely getting rid of your condition. -egg yolk mixed with honey makes for a really great mask: put on your skin, leave it on for 20 minutes, and rinse off. Excellent for sensitive skin. Honey gives a tingling/ticklish sensation, so if you are sensitive to that, use the egg yolk alone. -another use for egg yolk: for those with eczema, use it instead of soap. It doesn't smell great, but it will heal your damaged skin. -a great treatment for dry skin is avocados: mash it, smooth it onto your face, and rinse off after 20 minutes.

It is believed that masks draw dirt, oil, and impurities out of the skin. There are many varieties of masks you can make at home. There are clay, food, herbal, and gel masks. Here are a few simple recipes.
Dry Skin Honey Mask 1 tsp. honey 1 tsp. aloe vera gel (you can get this at any pharmacy or health food store) 1 vitamin E capsule Mix together honey and aloe gel. Slit open vitamin E capsule and squeeze out contents into mixture and stir in. Spread on face making sure to avoid getting too close to your eyes. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Gently rinse off with warm water. Oatmeal Mask 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal 1 egg yolk 1/2 cup mashed banana (optional) Mix all ingredients together to form a paste. Spread on face, making sure you avoid the eye area, and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. One Ingredient Mask 1/2 avocado mashed May add 1 tsp. honey or jojoba oil. Spread on face, watching out for that eye area. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Chamomile Gel Mask 1 package unflavored gelatin 1/2 cup chamomile tea Make chamomile tea using 1/2 cup boiling water and 1 tea bag. Let tea steep for a few minutes. Add gelatin to tea and stir until completely dissolved. Chill until almost set, about 30 minutes. Spread on face, avoiding eye area, and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. China Clay Mask 1 Tbs. China (Kaolin) clay 1/2 tsp. of any or mixture of the following: jojoba oil vegetable glycerin olive oil water Mix ingredients together to form a paste. You may need to add extra liquid ingredients to make the mixture moist enough. Spread on face, avoiding eye area, and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Honey You're A Natural Beauty
By: The National Honey Board Throughout the centuries, legendary beauties have used honey as part of their skin and hair care treatments. Cleopatra was famous for her milk and honey baths, and Poppea, wife of Roman Emperor Nero, used a honey and milk lotion on her face to keep her looking youthful. By the time cosmetics were beginning to be mass produced in the late 1800s, honey was a popular ingredient. Today, manufacturers are increasingly using honey in skin moisturizers, facial masks, hair conditioners and shower gels in response to consumer demand for more natural formulations. Did you know! All-natural honey is an effective treatment for minor abrasions and burns. A recent review of medical research documents its effectiveness as an antimicrobial agent. A Natural Moisturizer The skin’s ability to stay hydrated is an important factor in its ability to maintain softness, suppleness and elasticity. As skin ages, or as it is exposed to environmental stresses and chemical agents, it loses this ability to retain water, becomes dry and appears wrinkled. Honey is a humectant, which means it attracts and retains water. So honey is a natural fit for a variety of moisturizing products including cleansers, creams, shampoos and conditioners. Because honey is also an anti-irritant, it is suitable for sensitive skin and baby care products. Skin Softening Bath Add ¼ cup honey to bath water for a fragrant, silky bath. Hair Shine Stir 1 teaspoon honey into 4 cups (1 quart) warm water. Blondes may wish to add a squeeze of lemon. After shampooing, pour mixture through hair. Do not rinse out. Dry as normal. Alpha Hydroxy Acids Research is currently underway to develop a process using honey to create alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). AHAs are an important ingredient in many skin creams and moisturizers because they help exfoliate the skin. Increased exfoliation, or renewal of the skin cells, gives skin a younger, more vibrant look. Exfoliation can also cause skin irritation so honey’s natural moisturizing ability makes it a perfect fit for AHA products. Moisture Mask Mix 2 tablespoons honey with 2 teaspoons milk. Smooth over face and throat. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Smoothing Skin Lotion Mix 1 teaspoon honey with 1 teaspoon vegetable oil and ¼ teaspoon lemon. Rub into hands, elbows, heels and anywhere that feels dry. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with water. Antioxidants Preliminary studies have also revealed that honey has significant natural antioxidant properties. Antioxidants play a role in protecting the skin from the damage of UV rays and in aiding in skin rejuvenation. Prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV radiation can cause skin damage, premature aging and even skin cancer. Because chemical and physical barrier sunscreens can cause skin irritation, companies are researching the use of antioxidants, anti-irritants and moisturizers in their sun care products. The natural properties of honey make it ideal for these products. Look for honey to appear in the ingredient statements of more and more cosmetics, sunscreens and skin care products. Honey Cleansing Scrub Mix 1 tablespoon honey with 2 tablespoons finely ground almonds and ½ teaspoon lemon juice. Rub gently onto face. Rinse off with warm water. Firming Face Mask Whisk together 1 tablespoon honey, 1 egg white, 1 teaspoon glycerin and enough flour to form a paste. (Approximately ¼ cup). Smooth over face and throat. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Thanks!
Do you know if the honey would irritate skin prone to acne?? I just talked to a lady that does natural type facials and she said to stay away from exfoliating products with hard sharp ingredients in them. She said even if it is crushed and ground very small, it still disturbs and makes small cuts in your delicate skin's layers that you cannot see. She said to use anything with soft micro beads, nothing hard...

Do you believe in miracles? Buy Creme de La Mere!
Someone gave it 2 me as present years ago, but its very expensive, no more Botox! he,he! If miracles are defined as unique events that appear inexplicable by the laws of nature, then surely Créme de la Mer is a miracle. For here is the creme that will truly change the way you see yourself, the creme that has been coveted by those in the know since 1965. THE ACCIDENT. Créme de la Mer was conceived under extraordinary circumstances. Years ago, Dr. Max Huber, a NASA aerospace physicist suffered a horrific accident - a routine experiment exploded in his face - covering him with severe chemical burns. Neither science nor medicine offered sufficient promise of help, so Huber decided to help himself. Twelve years and 6,000 experiments later, he perfected the creme that would help give skin a dramatically smoother appearance. THE FORMULA. Créme de la Mer "defies" the laws of nature. At the heart of Créme de la Mer is a highly potent Miracle Broth™. There is nothing miraculous about its ingredients - sea kelp, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, lecithin, Vitamins C, E and B12, plus oils of citrus, eucalyptus, wheat germ, alfalfa and sunflower. For Huber, it wasn't the ingredients but the way those ingredients were distilled that made all the difference between a good moisturizer and a small miracle. And, he discovered that an amazing thing transpired as these ingredients journeyed from individual components into a nutrient-rich, Miracle Broth™ -- a process that took 3-4 months to complete. The ingredients did indeed transform into a whole far greater than the sum of its parts. Vital energies were spontaneously released and through this slow biofermentation process, Créme de la Mer was born. Today, Créme de la Mer's Miracle Broth™ is manufactured by the same slow, meticulous, biofermentation process created by Dr. Max Huber. THE MIRACLE. Even now, it is not entirely clear how Créme de la Mer works. But facts are facts and certainly the proof can be seen on the faces of those who use it. In a short time, skin becomes softer, firmer, looks virtually creaseless. Aging lines and pores are noticeably less visible. Even the driest of complexions are healed. Sensitivities are soothed. Créme de la Mer is also available in two lotion formulations, both containing the original Miracle Broth™ and extraordinary benefits, but tailored to the needs of different skin types. The Moisturizing Lotion for normal and normal to dry skins is ideal for warm weather climates and occasions when Créme may be too rich. The Oil Absorbing Lotion is oil-free and leaves a soft matte finish that inhibits oily breakthrough. THE SECRET. Créme de la Mer's Miracle Broth™ is suspended within its extraordinary formula. To activate the broth and release its key ingredients, warm a small amount between your fingertips. As you pat onto clean, dry skin, you will instantly feel the soothing effects of the broth. Smooth over your face, neck, even under the fragile eye area. Apply day and night - for a lifetime. More info: http://www.saksfifthavenu...r=la%20mer [Edited 12/30/05 6:47am]

I was in the local health food store today and I picked up a few samples of yummy facial products. One is called Incredible Pumpkin Peel (ingredients: super concentrated pumpkin extract, pumpkin wine, pumpkin enzymes, honey enzymes, pineapple extract, essential oil of orange, vanilla & d-beta fructan.) The other one is Blueberry Antioxidant Mask( ingredients: Aqua, blueberry pulp, caprylic/capric triglycerides, glycerin, titanium dioxide, minerals, cone flower, mallow extract, hemp oil, honey, oxygen, green tea, vit e, CoQ10, cherry extract, vanilla essential oil, jasmine.) They smell good enough to eat! I will report tomorrow on how they work! [Edited 12/30/05 16:00pm]

great thread! it's nifty to know how to make potions like these.
i find it disturbing that many cosmetic companies use animals as test subjects for their products. that's just not beautiful at all. imo it's much better to make our own cosmetics or buy from a company that doesn't torture animals.
