Remeber the movie "When a Stranger Calls" (1979)

mobile"...why haven't you checked the children?"

A babysitter (Carol Kane) gets threatening phone calls while on the job. She soon finds that a pair of children in her charge have been murdered in their beds; she is nearly killed herself by the homicidal maniac before police arrive. Later Kane's character is a wife and mother--and the monster escapes from a mental institution to re-create his original carnage in Kane's home.

It's being remade! eek

Out Feb 2006, Trailer.

I remember hearing about this and being so scared because the calls were coming from within the house (??). That would not be so unbelievable today, cell phones and all.

TNT used to show this a lot. I didn't know they were remaking it though. I wish they'd get some new material for horrors now.

I know I know I hate movies like this but love them too. And scarey movies about situations that could happen are the worst!

It's like all the geeks (sorry) who loved these movies in the 70s and 80s now have the money and technology to make these movies into what they reckon they should've been back then, but they have no impact due to being remakes and everyone already knows the story already sad

The film works for the first half, when it sticks with the original premise. Then it turns into a DUMBASS hunt with Charles Durning looking all over town for some boring ass psycho dude.

I want to see that original...I didn't know that the kids were killed? I'm not 100% sure, but the way "horror" movies have been done lately, they are more pshycological and less bloody so I'm sure the kids aren't dead!

Can anyone think of an example when a remake has surpassed the original?

That Movie is EXCELLENT....That will be Wild the New version... Seems like so Many remakes Nowadays. Amittyville Really Was Great. I Never saw the Original. I think it's cool cause alot of Younger kids haven't seen the earlier movies. It's like I myself don't know anything from the 70's Really mostly 80's and beyond...

RipHer2Shreds

Both the original and its sequel (a Showtime movie from the mid 90s) have excellent opening sequences and everything that follows is kinda blah. But for a direct Halloween ripoff, the original isn't bad. The remake? I dunno. Sick of all the remakes of classic horror. They've been entertaining the idea of a Halloween remake for some time, but since Moustapha Akkad - the producer of the entire Halloween series - died in the Jordan hotel bombing a few months back it may never happen.
