My Roxio just died =(

Hey guys, my Roxio just died. Does anyone out there know of a GOOD cd burning program? It seems that my Roxio will burn the first 2/3 of the cd fine, then the last 1/3 will skip or i get a "unknown extension" error? Computer geeks unite and solve this blite.

i swear by NERO cd burning software. you can do some mixing and editing of your music on it, and it's really super easy to use.

Do you have the free trial version or the full version? I can't stand my burning software (though as of last night I think it's my drive/burner going sad )

I was looking into Nero biggrin

i have the full version - i used the trial version for a while until i was comfy with the software, then i looked into what i'd get with the full version, and decided to make the investment. it's been well worth it!

if your cd burning software is goofing up, it MAY be a memory problem, ya know...in which case, switching to 'better' software won't solve anything. if i were you i'd check how much memory you have going on.

and yeah, the CD drive to my PC is about shot, too...i think all the year-end burning parties took their toll! lol fortunately, i got a laptop w/ cd burner for christmas! woot!

This may be exactly the excuse I need to get the other computer from my parents house finally biggrin

I'm downloading the trial version now and will more than likely bite the bullet and but the software next year sometime biggrin

it's good stuff. i'm very much in favor of nero's cd cover/label design software, too...it's not the best design software in the world, but it links to the CD burning software and minimizes a lot of typing....VERY user friendly, too. nod

i forget if the freeware has it or not, but with nero i have tons of fun with crossfading and editing the length of gaps between songs...once you get the hang of it, you can really make a compilation CD flow.

I don't get it. I am a computer geek. First thing to know about being a computer geek is to kiss the computer. Keep It Simple Silly, kiss the computer.

I use the Microsoft Media Player for burning all my CD mixes. Why wouldn't you just use this?

We are talking about a Music cd and not a data cd right? If so, keep it simple.

Media Player is what I am using and out of the last 25 discs I burned about 10 glitch BADLY sad My drive is fine I found out...it has to be the software. I hate having to burn songs to a disc and then re-rip them to edit out long silences or to fade ultra long songs. If Nero has that feature w/o me having to waste discs, I'm all for it woot! For example, a couple of the songs I used on my Holiday Mix had either long talking before or after them that I didn't want to include in the mix. So I had to burn those songs to disc and then use Audiograbber (my 2nd favorite program EVER!!) to rip them off that CD the length I wanted. With Audiograbber it's easy enough, but still more steps than I would like to have.

Another feature I can't STAND about Media player is that if my files are already WAV files then why oh why does it inspect and convert each and every file before burning? 27 minutes to burn 1 disc is just a weee bit long in my book. Especially since when I had Roxio (not compatible w/ XP dammit, my legal came with the computer version is OLD!) it just burnt 'em and that was that.

I'm all for simple, but Media Player frustrates the heck outta me sad

I use iTunes. It's easy and fast. But I don't pay attention to file types since I run all Apple. Not sure how flexible it is in that regard.

I used NERO when I was running XP and liked it.

WMP & Roxio both started "stuttering" after the first 4 or 5 songs. That is why i quit using them. I have Nero now and I have no difficulty whatsoeva with burning cd's. I like the trial version so I guess after the first of the year I will purchase the full version. woot!

i really dislike windows media player. it's fussy and non-user-friendly. i can never find or configure tracks the way i want to configure them in my mind. with nero - heck, even with REAL PLAYER (which i also dislike, for other reasons) - i can work intuitively. i don't have the patience to put together CDs the way windows media player wants me to. hmph!

Maybe I should ad how resource heavy most window's programs are. I however have my Ram memroy maxed out and I haven't had any trouble ever with any of my cd or dvd burns.
