The Holiday Break-up Rule

Whats the un-offical Break -up rule during the holidays?

I mean is it totally cruel and inhuman to break off a relationship during the Christmas / New Year season? If so whats the cutt-off date? lol

Ive been in a relationship with this person since July and while Ive seen this coming (the breakoff) for awhile but lately I'm at my wits end and want to end it sooner than later and get on with my life. But now it is the week before Christmas, then it will be New Year...then of course their birthday is January 12th..and i cant do it then. neutral

Am I doomed and stuck in this til what ...at least January 20th?....I figure I have a window of oppertunity of about 2 weeks then before Valentines Day sneaks up . wall

...or do I just be a jerk and do it?

thank you brown, that would be the simplest , but its a freaking 6 days before Christmas...gifts have been bought , plans have been made. This isnt going to be a cut and dry , "see ya later" either . This person is obsessive and the process could take days of agony.

if you really want to be rid of the person, then you need to do it now, don't wait. The longer you wait, the more doubts will set in about your decision. If you know for sure that this what needs to be done, then there is no time like the present.

I broke up with my high school sweetheart right before christmas....and he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan in the Marine Corps....
Yeah i know it sounds harsh as shit, but all we did was argue, and like you, i knew that the relationship needed to end. So I broke up with him like a week before christmas and his birthday had just past, and he cursed me out like crazy. after hanging up the phone, i went to the post office and traced the package i had sent off (his birthday gift and christmas gift totally at least $200.00 worth of gifts). I received the package the next day and went and took everything back to the store for a refund. While i did feel sort of bad about the timing, i had a great STRESS FREE christmas with an extra 200.00 dollars in my pocket....

July? July 2005?

you don't own them nothing.

Break it off now and be free for newyearseve to wallow in self loathing and lonelyness pondering if she is the love of your life, or go out and have some fun.

Spats

Dump their ass now. Then you save money on gifts and maybe have a chance to get lucky on New Years Eve.

Yeah July 2005 , been a "couple" for 6 months (even though its felt like 6 years) , but were good friends for a year and a half before that. While I know this person is not the ONE for me , I still care about them and would feel like shit doing this right before Christmas.

if you truly cared for them as a person I would think you would show them the respect it takes to let them know the truth instead of leading them on.
