geek <( Standard television only has 525 lines of resoulition. Think of it as a picture that is only 525 pixels high. On the computer screen it is really small. High Definition Television HDTV is twice that amount, more or less, so instead of having 525 lines of resoulition you have 1050. Of course anything old that was made for 525 would look like crap. Just like if you had an image that was 525 and expanded it to double the size it would look pixelated.

Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

but my friend has a top of the line HD tv (over $5000) and regular ntsc and dvd's look GREAT despite line doubling, and HD HBO looks as smooth as magazine photos.

yes, I can see you missed my words' meaning. By "OLD" i meant 20 years old.

yeah a lot of people find digital too sharp in audio and video. i myself turn the sharpness down a little or keep the treble flat or down a touch.

now that's just silly! I think that a lot of people are also getting unkowingly ripped off by cheaper lcd hdtv's that have a low contrast ratio, it makes stuff look like shit, and doesn't reflect what the pic is supposed to look like. LCD tv's in general are bad unless you pay more money for a high contrast ratio.

i don't think it's silly. i work in audio and often THX a lot of things and some factory presets are to my mind usually not indicitave of what is really there.

clarity is great, but there is such a thing as something being too sharp, too colourful or too contrasting.

presets are definitely out of wack, I agree with you, but if you are a videophile you'll calibrate your monitor and if you calibrate it properly you would turn down the artificial sharpening and lower the birghtness and contrast to keep things from getting blown out, oversaturated, and distorted. BUT, I just saw a film print of the beginning of purple rain and it blows away the recent dvd release. Because of the amount of detail and clarity! Just in the opening silhouette of prince, you can see so much more, like his eyes, wisps of smoke n the air. The only way to get this at home on a monitor is through hidef on a good calibrated hidef tv.

My favorite christmas animation..."The Year without a Santa Claus"

Jingle Jingle, Edit

The Heat Miser Song
by Maury Laws and Jules Bass

[Heat Miser]
I'm Mister Green Christmas
I'm Mister Sun
I'm Mister Heat Blister
I'm Mister Hundred and One
They call me Heat Miser,
What ever I touch
Starts to melt in my clutch
I'm too much!
[Chorus]
He's Mister Green Christmas
He's Mister Sun
He's Mister Heat Blister
He's Mister Hundred and One
[Heat Miser]
They call me Heat Miser,
What ever I touch
Starts to melt in my clutch
[Chorus]
He's too much!
[Heat Miser]
Thank you!
I never want to see a day
That's under sixty degrees
I'd rather have it eighty,
Ninety, one hundred degrees!
(spoken):Oh, some like it hot, but I like it really hot! Hee hee!
[Chorus]
He's Mister Green Christmas
He's Mister Sun
[Heat Miser]
Sing it!
[Chorus]
He's Mister Heat Blister
He's Mister Hundred and One
[Heat Miser]
They call me Heat Miser,
What ever I touch
Starts to melt in my clutch
I'm too much!
[All]
Too Much!

The Snow Miser Song
by Maury Laws and Jules Bass

[Snow Miser]
I'm Mister White Christmas
I'm Mister Snow
I'm Mister Icicle
I'm Mister Ten Below
Friends call me Snow Miser
What ever I touch
Turns to snow in my clutch
I'm too much!
[Chorus]
He's Mister White Christmas
He's Mister Snow
[Snow Miser]
That's right!
[Chorus]
He's Mister Icicle
He's Mister Ten Below
[Snow Miser]
Friends call me Snow Miser,
What ever I touch
Turns to snow in my clutch
[Chorus]
He's too much!
[Snow Miser]
I never want to see a day
That's over forty degrees
I'd rather have it thirty,
Twenty, ten, five and let it freeeeEEEEEeeze!
[Chorus]
He's Mister White Christmas
He's Mister Snow
[Snow Miser]
That's right!
[Chorus]
He's Mister Icicle
He's Mister Ten Below
[Snow Miser]
Friends call me Snow Miser,
What ever I touch
Turns to snow in my clutch
... too much.
[All]
Too Much!
