Fruitcakes: Do People Really Eat Them??

This is something that has me wondering, since fruitcakes seem to be the butt of many jokes here in the United States. Just watched a rerun of "A Different World", where the characters on the show were passing along a fruitcake that someone had received because NOBODY wanted it. Kinda makes you wonder just what purpose fruitcake serves if nobody seems to like to eat it. hmmm
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

My mom makes excellent fruit cake.

I don't buy the ones in the store, unless I need a door stopper lol

lol I've yet to taste a fruitcake that was good, but moms always seem to have the best recipes.

I actually made a fruitcake post a couple of weeks back.

I love fruitcake. I ain't just talking about prince here.

I buy good quality fruitcakes from stores. I find they are very yummy.

I like them because of their nuts and fruit pieces, plus they are very hearty eats.

I don't sudgest you open a fruitcake that you get for a gift. There is no real way to tell how many times it has been regifted or how long it is been around. Well, I guess you could always have it carbon dated.

Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

I think the oldest fruitcake recorded was given at the time of jesus's birth. Mary and Joseph started regifting it the next year. It was lost through the dark ages. It's funny but through all the times of starvation, no one ate it. I think it is in a NYC museam.

My family have a special handed down recipe for fruitcake- which is usually used when making Christmas cake or wedding cake. I LOVE the aroma of it. Every year- my aunty gets a round of my other aunts and her husband and any uncle willing to help to chop the fruit and all of that! IT'z a huge job- cause they usually make cake for all the extended family we have- so that'z about 9 families all up, and then my nana keeps some too! ANyway, because they need as many ovenz as possible, in ourhouse, we keep two in the oven like last weekend! Smellz juuuust beautiful. AND i'v always loved licking the batter left from the bowlz. But you know what! I can't eat the damn cake! lol I'm just not a fruit cake person. Gimme chocolate mud anyday! hmph!

my grandmother makes them, and they taste pretty good to me. its those ones they sell in the grocery store that taste like shit.

Girl you watch "A Different World" too?!!! That's my show!!!! I love all of them except the first season with Denise on there, she was corny as hell and so was the show at that time.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Fruitcake is ok. I love dried fruit and nuts but with every dessert that is very rich and heavy, u cant eat too much of it. A small sliver of fruitcake will suffice. lol

u right about that. I can only tolerate about two slithers at a time. Too much fruitcake will put you too sleep with a tummy ache...

My mom likes it. She'll buy a small one each year. I remeber in the eigthies (and probably still now) that like every show or movie that was doing something with Christmas and wanted a good joke would say something about fruitcake...I never even knew what it was really like for years or if people really liked it.
