I saw it today along with The Producers.
Kong was alright. I loved the scenes with Watts and Kong. Those were Gold. The best parts of the movie. The problem is i don't think there were enough of that. They should have spent more time showing Watts and Kong getting to know each other better and less time with The Dinosaurs and the subplots with the crew. The Positives... 1. All the scenes with Watts and Kong. Kong was really realistic and likable and Watts did a great job. The best parts were the frozen pond scene, Kong seeing her again on the NY street, and her performing for him. They should have had Brody fall off the Empire State Building instead and have Watts and Kong hook up. 2. Kong's fight with the Dinosaurs. Great Battle. 3. Kong's final stand at the end. The negatives.. 1. The Dinosaur stampede was just dumb and served no purpose and looked really fake. 2. The crew member characters were just lame. Especially the young kid. Just an embarrassing character. And you don't care what happens to them. When a lot of them are killed you just don't care. Waste of time. 3. Adrian Brody is not leading man material. I think Watts arms are bigger than his. He was just to wimpy. Jack Black was pretty bad too. Gotta question the casting choices. 4. Way too unrealistic in some parts. Especially all that Watts goes through and comes out of it without a scratch.

I liked King Kong alright, but I've never seen the original (Which is something I plan to fix, and soon). ~ I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR ~

Especially all that Watts goes through and comes out of it without a scratch. 5. Completely UNmemorable generic music score. Example: the "ice skating" scene, the music is stereotypical cheesy movie music. '76 one was lucky enough to have a john barry score which had identity. 6. The use of certain stylistic techniques that were CHEAP. Why should such an expensive epic movie resort to that stacatto slomo effect that looks like something from an 80's episode of Unsolved Mysteries? Annoyingly, they would break into this at "dramatic" moments in the first third. 7. The portrayal of the natives was stereotypical Peter Jackson. The monster style makeup on the old lady, the spastic zombie like acting... too horror-cheesy, and too indicitive of jackson's cult horror background. I love Peter Jackson's work; however, the man simply is no Sam Firstenberg. Jackson spends almost an entire hour on the back story and trying to get you to "like" the crew of the ship, whereas Fistenberg can get you to immediately like or dislike his characters within seconds of meeting them. The chemistry between Kong and Ann simply could not compare to the underlying sexual tug that Kelly and Turbo had on each other ( Breakin' 2, and the tired cliche' of a 25 foot ape trying to survive in the big city, can not match the freshness of Fistenberg's uncompromising vision of how a small group of innercity kids save their neighborhood and institute cultural change throug breakdancing and "popping". But don't take my word for it, Here's a review from the DVD: An incredibly moving tale that has changed many lives, July 21, 2003 Reviewer: A viewer What can I say about this film. I was in Canne, vacationing with my family in the mid 80s, while the film festival was going on. One night, my wife and I decided to see the ONE film that was causing the biggest stir in that sea-side resort. "Breakin' 2-Electric Boogaloo" was that film. I didn't know what to expect but needless to say, none of the movie goers left disappointed. We laughed, we cried, and we pop-rocked....and we laughed and cried some more. Never before have I seen a film transcend racial and economic barriers like this particular piece of work. All through the streets, kids were 'poppin'. In resaurants, in bars--you could not stop the people. I even saw the head pit boss at the Monte Carlo Casino do the 'worm' across the floor while at the same time one of the patrons was doing the 'helicopter', and two maids were beat-boxin'. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. The instant we got back to the states, I updated my wardrobe to include some new parachute pants, and some fresh headbands (to compliment my collection of Jams shorts.) I even found myself calling my wife 'Kelly', and she would never fail to respond with an affectionate 'Turbo'. What I am trying to say is 'THIS MOVIE WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE' No longer will you struggle to get out of bed in the morning--you will jump into the shower each new day, mentally planning your breakin moves for any potential competitors you may meet on the streets. If I could rate this film 10 stars I would--twice as good as anything out there. [Edited 12/18/05 8:52am]

The $50M is definitely an over-estimate to get it over the psychological $50M mark for the weekend. I can't see this film's Sunday number being higher than its Friday number, so expect the number to fall to about $48M once actuals are released tomorrow.

The press is pretty much saying what I did and recalling the fact that "Titanic" built up to be a big hit. It could happen. It's not like the competition is that great. Did "The Producers" open up? If so, it really tanked!

I just got back from Kong and I LOVED IT.
Naomi was simply fantastic. When you figure the majority of her acting was done with something that wasn't even really there, she did a crazy good job. Adrian Brody was seXXXy as ever. I only wish Jack Black's character would've gotten squooshed by the monkey.

I love Jack Black (can't wait for the Tenacious D movie) but I don't think this is the best role for him....he, however, can do drama. He had a great supporting role in "Jesus's Son". As for acting in front of something that is not there, the actor who did the motions for Kong was in front of her and she said that was a help. It looks very well done. I want to see it and just might. [Edited 12/18/05 19:24pm]
