It appears that the partial strike is starting to happen. I turned on NY1 and it seems like the Jamaica and the Triboro Coach Bus drivers are bringing the buses back and the drivers are starting to go on the picket line. Things are really going to go crazy 24 hrs from now if the MTA and the TWU don't get it together.

me too. i have a lot of things to do in manhattan this week and this strike will really jack me up if it happens. i might have to use my car to get to my aunts house and i HATE driving in nyc. i'm glued to the news.

Some guy from the MTA just announced that the MTA put a "fair offer" on the table and the TWU refused it, and have left the building (Hyatt) where talks were being held. The TWU is on their way to Union Hall--presumably to do the final vote on whether to strike...

Looks like I'm walking to work tomorrow...

Yes the strike is on and it's so strange to see sooo many people walking around here and not seeing any buses or trains running. It's freezing cold and from what I seem the traffic is VERY BAD. It's just very surreal what's happening.

i just got done reading an article about the strike starting in the star tribune...what i don't understand is this: how in the world you gonna go on strike, and there's a $1 billion surplus in the MTA???? that's fucked!

lhmj...i wish metro transit here in mpls had a friggin surplus when they went on strike a couple summers ago. after it was over they cut a bunch of bus routes, too...plus they raised the fare by 25 cents (2nd time the fare was raised in the 4 years i've lived here).
