The Golden Globes

Any thoughts on the nominees? Who got a nod and didn't deserve it and vice versa. Was your favorite movie represented or is it crazy that most of the movies are still in very limited release or not out yet at all ("The Producers", for one).

Yeah? What are you interested in?

I like the fact that there are a lot of indie features but then why is Johnny Depp nominated for the dreadful "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". It was kind of entertaining here and there but acting?

LOST got 3 nominations...

Best Drama
Best Actor rolleyes
Best Supporting actor...which I think a different person on the show should have gotten the nod.

It's not uncommon that most of the nominees are still in limited releases. The studios are well aware that these lame awards ceremonies can't remember anything that was released before November, so they hold them off until the very last moment. I'm not sure about Golden Globes, but Oscar rules specify that a movie must have a theatrical release of at least two weeks before the end of the year.

The nominees - nothing too surprising, I guess. I'm blank on the TV noms. I watch very little current TV.

I'm thrilled 2 see Polly Walker get a nomination 4 "Rome". She's great on that show. Also nice 2 see "Brokeback Mountain" get so much love. Ang Lee is 1 of my favorite directors.

It's ridiculous that History of Violence has been nominated for Best Motion Picture. The beginning is laughable and the end result falls flat. It's one of those movies that looked interesting on paper, but doesn't really play well. I could make a long list of its problems.

The Constant Gardener doesn't deserve to be up there either. It's irrelevant that I agree with its message because it does come across as a propaganda film (and propaganda is never good) and a cheap thriller rolled into one. I do however think the director deserves a nomination for really doing the most he could possibly do with such a mediocre screenplay. And the first half of the movie has a few really good moments.

I haven't seen the rest of the BMP nominees.

Yep, he was the lead, and he's been getting great notes on his performance since the film debuted at Cannes in May.
