I believe some of you prob went there not open minded...

for the sake of argument, let's say i went their closed-minded (though i'm not sure how one goes to King Kong with a closed mind, but i digress)...isn't a good movie capable of opening one's mind? if it was as good as the critics are raving, shouldn't i have left with my doubts being squashed? just wondering.

i mean, its cool we disagree but why the crusade to change our minds? some people liked it and some didn't. i went expecting to love it...you can't get much more open minded than that. lol

Saw it this afternoon.

I was expecting to love it. I was excited right up until the film began.

It sucks. I give it 6 of 10.

The opening "Life in the 30's" montage is great. But then you get this story about Anne's theater closing and her having to consider a burlesque job, blah blah blah. The original movie set up Anne's desperation in one short scene. Likewise, you get this big story about Denham's problems at his studio, something that was illustrated in a single discussion in the original.

I'm not disappointed because it's not the same as the original, just disappointed so much time and effort was put into these scenes that are completely irrelevant.

For example, did we really need to know all about the cabin boy who stowed away on the ship, or about the first mate's obsession with "Heart of Darkness?" Or did the captain have to change his mind like 4 times before they reach Skull Island? We get the point. All these characters disappear later and their stories should have been saved for the dvd.

And that's not to mention the stupity of the dinosaur stampede, or the bug pit.

I will say the New York sequences were fine. The fight on the Empire State Building is great. The film has its moments.

But overall, I stand by my '6'.

I enjoyed the film a lot more than you, but I completely agree with you on the bolded portion. I found myself thinking that very thing as I was watching it. In the original we saw her stealing an apple, and that's all we needed to know that she was hungry and desperate. No more was necessary than that.
