Never heard of it. lol

Is it Hardware meets Star Wars? Leia being chased by a homicidal robot and Luke tripping out on poison?

Ugh, you should see the original. And yes - Dark Star is the mutant beach ball one. smile

I actually really liked Hardware. It was stylish and atmospheric and almost had arthouse-like qualities to it. Everybody else hated it though, including the critics. You know how they sometimes put positive reviews on the official movie poster? Well, for Hardware they could only dig up a luke-warm comment from some hick magazine in northern Sweden. It had probably served the marketing more if they'd just skipped the reviews altogether. lol

redface I have the hardware soundtrack!

My videobusters store doesn't have the original solaris though sad

I don't remember the sound track at all. lol What is it like? Mood music or actual songs?

pretty moody, lots of slide guitar, bit of opera and some PIL "this is what you want, this is what you get"

Saw it last night, friggin' LOVED it! A little long, and the first hour drags a bit, but after they get to Skull island the movie really gets moving. Fantastic effects, amazing acting and beautiful cinematography. Jackson did a great job with this one.

Seeing it on Sunday night. The original was one of my favorites movies as a kid and to this day, I still find it to be one of the most moving horror/sci-fi movies ever made.

In the hands of Peter Jackson, I'm expecting it to be good.

i am just so disappointed with this movie. this is a perfect example of why less is often more.

how can someone like jackson mess up a movie like king kong?

at times i didn't know if i was watching king kong or jurassic park, and don't even get me started on the whole insect scene. i could have done without the dragged out, hour long background of the characters. why did there have to be some stupid back story leading up to why they were going to the island; why didn't jackson just keep the simple idea of shooting on location? all of the extra stuff was not only completely unnecessary but incredibly boring.

there were also far too many cheesy hallmark moments. at one point i was waiting for a polar bear and penquin to come out with a coke and share it with kong and anne. disbelief oh, man, it was just so disappointing.

it could have been more interesting if jackson had the balls to follow up on the "hearts of darkness" undertones for which the original kong was a metaphor. the idea of westerners coming into a land, taking what is good and ruining the rest, exporting their finds back to the western world where they will abuse it and, ultimately, destroy it...this is something peter jackson could have made an epic about. instead, he wastes far too much time and money to make a seriously lame film.

I can't understand the raving that's going on about this film. The entire first hour of "King Kong" was a waste of time and should have been on the dvd. SO much time building up characters who had no bearing whatsoever on the story.

This film was self-indulgent crap.

Save your money and either go see "Narnia" or rent the 1933 "Kong," which is a masterpiece.

Everyone I know is raving about this movie. It looks great(what else would you expect from Jackson?), but I'm not a big Kong fan. I'll watch it on cable.

this is precisely how i feel. if the hour long intro had some relevance on ANYTHING in the rest of the film it would have been fine. if kong didn't spend half his screen time fighting dinoasaurs, it would have been fine. it was just overkill.

perhaps we can talk more about it when more people have seen it. i don't want to give away anything (trust me, there is a lot of pointless stuff to give away even if you've seen the original) so i'll wait until then.

i agree. Did you laugh at the stampede? And how about the boy who shot off the insects with the machine gun, and didn't shoot Adrian Brody once, hahahahahaha!

less would be soooo much more.

I sort of agree with both of you. I'm all for character exposition, but it went nowhere and ended up being unnecessary for this film. Jack Black was seriously miscast. He was too hammy for this role. Josh Lucas would have been perfect for it.

But I have to say, for sheer bombast and fun, the last two hours had me completely hooked. Yes, it was over the top and no, I wouldn't argue with you that it might have been overkill. To me, that was the point of it all. It was like an amusement park ride - a really thrilling one that didn't relent. I can't say that I was bored at all once they arrived on Skull Island. Even though the spider pit was too much and the "Jurassic Park" bit was completely unbelievable (they're outrunning diosaurs! lol) I went with it because it was complete indulgent diversion. I can't really fault them for outrunning dinosaurs when they made me believe that a 25-foot ape was real.

The framework of the movie is an action adventure epic, but at its heart it's a very sweet movie. Naomi Watts was perfect casting. I'm consistently impressed by her, and this role was no exception. In between screams - and there are plenty of them - she managed to make me feel for her. She fell for a big dumb gorilla, and I fell for her. It's corny, but hey...it worked!

I went last night and I thought it was pretty good. The first hour was a little slow and made it long, they really went into the character development which I'm not so sure was necessary. We all know who's who, just show us the good stuff.

The insect scene eek I was getting creeped out by all those gnarly slugs with teeth or whatever the hell they were. Nasty!

If you're a huge Kong fan go see it in the theatre, if not wait for it on dvd.

Wow! It's really 50/50 with you guys so far. You either love it or hate it.

I've got two little children. Ages 1 and 3. I don't really have any other option but to wait for it to come to DVD but I've been really excited to catch this flick ever since I heard about it.

Maybe the wife will let me sneak out and see a late showing one night. It might be easier with the holidays coming soon. I'll wait for a few more of your reviews before I make that call.

I pretty much agree with your review. The first hour could have been trimmed up some, but in this day and age where most films have NO character development, I was glad Jackson erred on this side.

I love it when somebody says "you didn't see it with an open mind." lol I enjoyed it a lot and it'll probably end up being one of my year-end favorites, but I've seen a few this year that I like more. And for the record, I liked it more than the Lord of the Rings movies. I think Kong was great. To me, those were just good.
