My Dad has always been like that with my brothers.....now that I think about it I don't think I have every seen him hug them sad ...

It can be very damaging I think.

My sister and I make it a point to hug my newphews all the time. We always tell them we love them, and we always tell the all sides of a story--even the ugly stuff.

They knew death was final, and that differnt people had different spins on life-after-death when they were only 3 and 4 years old. They also know that grownups can be wrong--we insist upon it. (Even though it doesn't change the fact that we are to be obeyed. lol )
I think that all of that helps them prepare for the real world and they cope that much better and become well rounded adults ...maybe its a generation thing....men of my dads era didn't show emotion ..where as today my daughter practically says I love you mum everytime she leaves the room lol and I to her and Tyryn in return mushy

oh and yes I definitely think it's damaging....my brothers and my Dad don't have very good relationships as adults now....they seem to be always looking for his approval and he never seems to quite give it to them sad

They've mentioned to my sister and I that they'd been practicing Mormons (they weren't raised that way, they joined it in their 20's I think) before we were born..but they don't know we know why they aren't still Mormon.

Our grandma told us that when they started to look into getting married in the Mormon church (this was in the seventies) that the elders or whoever made some remarks about looking into my mom's background...but not my dad's. Apparently this was motivated by racism, or something awfully close to it. My dad is obviously white, but my mom is hard to place when you first look at her. They were horrified and left the church.

I really want to know why they haven't told us this, but we were sworn to secrecy by my grandma.

ugh i had a spelling-like-AB moment edit duh

My life is stagnant because they babied me for too long and their love is self-serving. As a result, I always felt rejected and hated by them.
