Guys (and some girls): How long can you go without shaving before it looks slovenly?

I hate shaving. If I could go without shaving, I'd be able to get ready for work so much quicker in the morning. But when I don't shave before work, I feel skanky, like I'm wearing dirty sweatpants to the office or something. However, some guys are able to get away with rockin' the scruff and I guess it's just considered a "beard" or something.

So I ask - what's the accepted facial hair etiquette? At what point is it stylish or a personal grooming choice, and at what point are you just a big, hairy, lazy slob who needs to clean that mess up?

Because, you know, if I can get away with not shaving for a few days, I'm all over it.

it really depends on the person! some can't go even one day without looking like a slob. i'd say no more than three days, tho.

I shave everyday. I cannot stand the feeling of being unshaved and hate how it looks. I don't know how women can stand men with beards or mustaches.

Well, being of northern European descent I don't exactly get the kind of rough stubble they get in, say, the Middle East. So it doesn't look too out of control even after a few days. On the other hand it can look horrible and kind of teen-ager-ish if I don't groom it slightly every now and then, since the strands are relatively thin. I honestly haven't given it much thought though. hmmm

i agree with ya ANX... usually i do not shave every day ... altho my dad was military so he would make fun of me alot if i did not shave ... sooooo i think of him alot ... he would say things like "look at that guy with the beard ... man he must be lazy ... who does he think he is trying to look like --- moses??? " ... believe it or not ... after years - it had a desired effect!

If i am meeting with customers/clients i do try to shave ... i do not have to ... but it does look scruffy and unprofessional i think ... wink

alot of days ... i get outta the shower ... look at myself and say "i dont need to shave today " ... and then ... around 2 or3 ... i say ... "damn i shoulda shaved today !!! " wink

I have very thick black hairs growing out of my face, so I need the full-on shave to make my face look smooth. And, at that, it really only lasts a fue hours. What's the point?

Why is hair so "offensive" to look at? We devlop inturnalized phychological states as children. We grow up around our peers, in today's society. Thus we don't have to look at facial hair, and maybe this is why it is frounded upon.

Oh well. in most cases, I don't shave for 3 days or so. I hate shaving. If you were dragging a razor across your wrist, people would say you were trying to kill yourself, so why is dragging a razor across your face any better?

Sometimes I feel self conscious about my facial hair. But that's just because I know how it is looked down upon in public. Nonetheless, I can't be bothered to shave every day. So I often grow a Goat, soul patch, or other distractory facial hair crops.

i do the same thing sometimes! it's so dumb, as if i figured my face has taken the day off or something - then later in the day i'm all bumscrubbly and gross.

i WILL take shaving vacations on weekends if nothing's going on. i've made myself believe it's good for my skin if i don't shave on weekends. lol

Do you shave with an electric razor or blade?

I shave everyday (I really hate it too!) Most of the time, I use an electric razor. Too get that really close shave I use a straight razor at least once a week.

I too feel unkept when I don't shave. I can't go more than two days.

Well, for one thing I was naturally born smooth therefore I don't have to shave. So my **** is as smooth as an action figure's.

I have a good electric razor I use for cleaning up before going out.

I shave with razor and cream when I really want to get a close shave.

It takes me about 3 days to achieve a nice shadow- I'll shave my neck and along my cheek bones. I don't shave on weekends or vacations. I'd rather not but I'll shave on holiday family get togethers. Sometimes I won't shave on Fridays, but most work days I do.

I think it's hot, very sexy and stubble to me is a sex toy. But I'm into all a man's body hair. Love it love it love it.

But as for etiquette, a man should shave as needed to maintain a fresh shave. Some of my friends shave in the AM and in the PM before going out. For me, once a day... except on off days.

as for the question: i don't shave my legs very often. thankfully it's the time of year when leg hair's a bit helpful, since it's so cold outside.

I shave once a week. Seems long but I dont shave everything off though, I'd look too young if I did. I'd leave a goatee with a thin mustash and thin side burns.

Does Anxiety get some kind of prize for using 'slovenly' in a sentence?
