I read my first full comedy sketch for Second City today...

...and it killed! woot!

Mind you, it was only for the last class of my Sketch Comedy course, but it's still a tough crowd, and I even managed to get the teacher cackling. It's been a tough year for getting any kind of positive acknowledgement or success with my writing, and I'm hoping it's just a kind of karmic boot camp for better days next year, but this was a great way to end the year. With a bunch of people who have no reason to even LIKE me laughing at my work. It's kind of a modest little success, but I'll very happily take it. smile

Oh, and the sketch was about a 12 step meeting for people who talk too much called "Overexplainers Anonymous". It was very silly, but it could be a keeper on down the road. I'm prouder of it than most of what I've done at Second City over the past couple years, so there's another little victory.

Just thought I'd share another little comic-in-training update. smile

thanks...it did feel good to end the class on a high note. i'm skipping a term and going back for my next level term after next, so it left me feeling like i really want to continue the courses. when i get to the end of the program, they produce our class's work for a show that runs for two weeks, and i'd love to get to that point!

Other comics are the toughest audience a comic can face (can't remember who, but a famous one once said they don't laugh, they just say (deadpan), "That's funny".). Making these people break-up is a huge accomplishment! Congrats! clapping

Dude, I've obviously never seen you perform or read one of your sketches, but - based on what you write here - you could teach a master class in comedy. In my opinion, you are already ready for the big time.
