Assuming, for the sake of argument, that I merely copied my own discs onto CD-R for her... I don't practice intellectual property law, but I would think such copying would fall under the "fair use" doctrine/exception. I don't think there's any dispute that someone can make backup copies of legitimate CD's they own... the hypothetical transaction I'm discussing is a "retroactive backup," if you will, and it doesn't affect Prince any differently than if Jess had backed up her music before the theft.

So, as for the RIAA, bring 'em on.
