He was the best.

Like Bruce Lee or Muhammad Ali he pretty much defines his genre.

It's especially sad when these things happen around the holidays.

Condolences to his family and close friends.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that. He was a truly funny man. All these celebrities are dropping like flies these days. It's depressing. I wonder who's next.

Reaction to the Death of Richard Pryor By The Associated Press
Sat Dec 10,11:39 PM ET

Comments on comedian Richard Pryor, who died Saturday:

___

"By expressing his heart, anger and joy, Richard Pryor took comedy to its highest form." — comedian Steve Martin.

___

"Richard Pryor was one of the true pioneers of his art form. He was the Charlie Parker of comedy, a master of telling the truth that influenced every comedian that came after him. Our friendship went back to his days as a young comedian at Cafe Wha in New York, and although I will miss him like a brother, the legacy that he leaves will forever be with us." — music producer Quincy Jones.

___

"He was the single most seminal, comedic influence in the last 50 years. It was so appropriate that he received the inaugural Mark Twain prize, as they both did the same thing. Mark Twain showed us what it was like on the frontier and living on the Mississippi and what it was like living at the turn of the century, and Richard Pryor showed us what it was like to live in the inner city. His concepts are so hysterically funny and unique." — comedian Bob Newhart.

___

"I wish that every new and young comedian would understand what Richard was about and not confuse his genius with his language usage." — comedian Bill Cosby.

___

"The Comedy Store could never thank you enough for the gift you gave us all — the gift of yourself ... to the audience, to the other comics and the elevation of your humor to a one-man art form." — Mitzi Shore, owner of The Comedy Store club in Los Angeles.

One of my all time favs.I've been listening to this all night and its like hearing it for the first time. I remember getting into this back in the day and being blown away by the creativity. Black and White Lifestyles, Have Your Ass Home By 11 and the Exorcist are hilarious.

I know that he was so much more than just his 80s movies, but I grew up watching his films on VHS and that's how I'll remember him.

To this day, "Stir Crazy" is one of my favourite films ever. He was also the best thing in "Superman III".

His actual comedy could be quite abstract and avant-garde. It was so much more than observational humour. If you've never seen "Dynamite Chicken", try and get a copy from eBay.

A true genius.

Can't believe what? He has been deteriorating for years now with MS? I am happy the man is at peace now. What is not to believe? Believe that you are not going to be here forever either and turn your bewilderment into a life of passion and pursuits of Love and Dreams!

i remember him in "see no evil hear no evil" with Gene Wilder.

that was my movie.
thumbs up!

that, and "the toy" with another comedy legend,Jackie Gleason.

he definitely made his mark nod

anybody remember jojo dancer, your life is calling?

saw that one too.

I love that movie...and "Silver Streak"
He and Gene made a great team.

Also...his stand up...thank God for him. He told it how it was and didn't CARE. He was fierce, but at the same time, seemed like such a gentle soul. His voice was always so soothing to me.

I have mixed emotions about his passing...although, of course, it's a HUGE loss...at least his suffering is over. He's at peace and whole again.

pray

RIP, Richard.

WTF?????

the reason that i said "i can't believe this" is because i had always hoped that the MS would eventually go into remission, and he just MIGHT make a comeback of some sorts. hopefully doing some standup, that's all.

as far as the "passion" "love" "dreams" blah blah blah... save that for the NPGMC message board, ok? i already have a full plate of life.

not starting a fight, i just didn't appreciate your tone, that's all. sorry if i didn't explain why i couldn't believe this news.... i didn't think i had to.
