They've been isolated for weeks apparently, and the producers of the show have gone to great lengths to make an old airbase look like it could be a Russian space agency.

The people they've chosen have been selected because they're suggestible and at the end of the series they will be taken to what they believe is a spacecraft and fired into space. Actually, they won't leave the hangar and will see projections of space on a big screen outside the "space capsule".

It's being billed as the world's biggest practical joke.
