About time Spike got back on track. This one looks good.

I hope so, because that last movie I saw She Hate Me was god awful. I couldn't even watch it all.

the last spike movie i saw was that 9/11 movie with edward norton. wasn't so into it. 'she hate me' is still somewhere in the middle of my netflix queue.

Malcolm X
Clockers
Girl 6
He Got Game

...and based on those I must say he's one of the most overrated directors of our time (only Malcolm X was pretty good). But maybe I just picked the wrong Lee "joints".

I agree, I think Spike is actually underrated. He has made some great films. When I think of overrated in our times I think Quentin Tarantino and M. Night Shayamalan. They are both one trick ponies IMHO.

I will NEVER give up on Spike I always have hope that he'll turn out a good one, things have been shaky as fuck these past few years.

Mo' Better Blues and Malcolm X were his best movies in my book.....

She Hate Me was nothing but a soft porno....

I don't think he's underrated at all. I like his movies, but I don't think they're as good as he seems to think they are! Do the Right Thing is a favorite of mine and I liked Mo Better Blues and Malcolm X a lot as well. Outside of that...Crooklyn was cute, He Got Game was okay.

Inside Man looks promising if unoriginal. Maybe the outstanding cast he's working with will elevate it above its source material. Clive Owen is a fantastic (and sexy, I might add ) actor. I'm happy that Foster is finally working with a director that will challenge her. She's been coasting for some time now. I noticed that Lee didn't write this one. That's a first for him I think.

The last film of his that I saw was the 25th hour and
I think it´s a masterpiece. One of my favourite movies.

I used to go see Spike's flicks all the time, but I don't anymore. I just think he doesn't show as much sensitivity to other minorities as he should given that he is almost always going on about racism towards his own community.

I've been watching the development of this one for a while! I can't wait. Spike's got a few issues, but he is da man!!!!

The only movies I've really loved by him are "Girl 6" and "Do The Right Thing" (Not sure if I saw "Malcom X"...I would need to invest a lot of time in it, wouldn't I?) This new one could be good. Doesn't look like a Spike Lee movie...kind of looks like a paint by numbers cat and mouse game.

I refuse to watch that movie. As much as I like him as a film maker he's got two real weak spots - writing gay characters and women characters. That movie's full of both, and the trailer alone angered the piss outta me.

Yes it gets convoluted with subplots, but the exploration of lesbians, bisexuals, heterosexuals and all points in between is very interesting. Furthermore, the concept of sexual fluidity throughout the life course is touched on in the flick. It deals with a lot of topics that most people miss and Spike actually consulted and worked closely with one of the foremost scholars on lesbi-gay issues. So the views expressed regarding sexuality are not as cut and dry as we tend to think they are. It also rails at the absurdity of stereotypes and labels in their many forms. I just think some people miss the point of that movie because of the non-linear plot and surface level observations.

Hmmm...the synopsis makes it seem kind of ordinary, but still, it has to be better than She Hate Me. The previews/ads for that looked SO ridiculous that I didn't even waste my $$ or time to see it. I didn't really like 25th Hour either, although if I remember correctly, it was well received by critics. I feel like since He Got Game his films have been struggling.

Oh, and to VinnyM27--you must watch Malcom X. Yes it is long, but completely worth it, IMO. Delroy & Denzel give brilliant performances, and the soundtrack is great as well. One of my top 5 movies of all time.
