NEW YORK (Reuters) - Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE:KO - news), the world's No. 1 soft drink company, on Wednesday said it will launch a coffee-infused soft drink called Coca-Cola Blak in various markets around the world in 2006.

The news of the launch came hours before Coke Chief Executive Neville Isdell was scheduled to address financial analysts and investors in New York.

The new drink, a combination of Coca-Cola Classic and coffee extracts, will be first launched in France in January before being rolled out in the United States and other markets during 2006.

A Coke spokesperson said Coca-Cola Blak will be a mid-calorie drink, similar to Coca-Cola C2, which was launched in April 2004 and contains half the sugar, calories and carbohydrates of regular colas. The formula for the new beverage is expected to vary based on local tastes.

Analysts have said one of the keys to the company's future is capturing more consumers who have moved away from sugary soft drinks to diet versions, or to healthier low- or no-calorie beverages.

after they killed off my precious diet coke with lemon, i don't want to try a new flavor because i am afraid to love again.

i get the one with lime every now and then. it's good - especially in cans - but it kinda tastes like a mixer.

They should make sure to increase the caffeine content because most colas don´t really contain a lot of caffeine. You would have to drink a big bottle of Coke in order to get the equivalent amount of caffeine in one cup of coffee, and colas were meant to be a refreshing and energizing drink...remember Coke started out as a tonic and originally contained cocaine.

I like colas when the have that typical, strong cola taste....and they shouldn´t be so sugary.

I wonder what the different regional variations of this new Coke will taste like .

In Germany they used to have a cola called AfriCola which contained 250mg of caffeine and it also tasted great. Then it sort of disappeared and the small, oddly shaped bottles were only available in clubs. And now it´s back on the scene but the new bottling company has reduced the caffeine content.

Some underground fans in Germany now produce their own cola based on the AfriCola recipe and their cola is closer to the real deal from the 70´s.


I really curious about this new Coke Blak, but I´m afraid the coffee taste will be too dominant, so it will be more of a cold coffee drink than a strong cola.

They should create something with a very strong cola taste, more caffeine and less sugar...

Crystal Coke was the opposite of that.

I would love to test those new Coke Blaks...I wonder which one will taste the best, or how different they will taste.

Wow...Remember that soda JOLT? PURE CAFFEINE..... I like MANHATTAN SPECIAL'S ESPRESSO ITALIAN COFFEE SODA.

There is NOTHING like an ice-cold (glass) bottle of original-formula Coca-Cola.



However I am definitely willing to try the BLAK.

I need caffeine but I dont like coffee, so I drink Mountain Dew, I say the more caffeine the better, as long as it tastes good
