Inappropriate Gifts/Presents

Have you ever bought something for someone which was a little bit risque? Did they take offense? Were you told off by a relative of theirs?

Has anyone bought you an inappropriate gift? Did you tell them? Did you take it to a shop for a refund?

Yeah, a few years back I had a big crush on a guy called Ben. We became good buddies in the end, and I introduced him to a close girlfriend of mine, and a few years later they got married.

However, not long after introducing them, I recieved a birthday or christmas gift from her (can't remember which) which was Poppy Z. Bright's 'Exquisite Corpse'. Now the book was really good, but increadibly visceral, and (if memory serves me correctly) it concerned an immortal vampire, a gay serial killer named Paddy who murdered someone called Ben - and to make matters worse it started off set pretty much in the same county where I live.

As much as I enjoyed the book, I couldn't help but wonder if she was trying to tell me something.

My sister's boyfriend once gave me a book on Swedish grammar for Christmas. Considering that he knows I majored in Swedish and that it was a purely instructional textbook (i.e. no history or something else that might have interested someone who already knows all the grammar), it pretty much came across as an insult.
