Why do I get so distracted?! OK, so I've had about 3 days to complete a job application form for which the deadline isn't until the end of January. It shouldn't have taken me more than a morning or afternoon. But I still haven't finished it. The problem is I'm easily distracted or find something completing meaningless to do. I may have wrote about this before but I'm concerned I have a problem with concentration. I'm not too easily excitable but I don't know what it is. I have a hard time motivating myself and I feel terrible about it.
Is anyone the same? Any tips/ideas how to keep one's concentration and motivate oneself? I'm so annoyed with myself.

You'll feel better after doing it, think about the goal. Give yourself a day/time, respect it and GO !!!
I feel the same about washing dishes. [Edited 12/7/05 16:09pm]

Try some ritalin or adderall that is even better...of course you have to be diagnosed with A.D.D and have a doc's script, unless well ya got a hookup. Go see a doctor see what he or she says.

Do it when the time is right. Right now may not be the best time.

Me too, but I spoke to a psychologist friend and am treating myself, more or less... I cut down on caffeine (adult ADDs tend to self-treat with this), I drink more moderately or hardly at all (avoiding hard liquor), have set myself up with an organization system and more or less force myself to adhere to it in various ways... Another thing - I use an essential oil that's a mixture of various citrus fruits, and it calms my brain quite a bit. When I have to sit and write a term paper, I sniff it all day long. Other than that, I kind of accept myself the way I am, and juggle tasks. In the end, I do get a lot done, but on a more circuitous route.

I'm a procrastinator, too.
It helps to make to-do lists, even with mundane tasks like "Do Laundry" or "Mail Bills" written on it. That way, when you cross it off the list, you feel a little bit of accomplishment/relief/whatever in having it done. Also write "Fill out application!" on the list and put it on your desk or somewhere you'll definitely see it every day. Eventually you'll get sick of looking at it, so you'll fill out the application and be done with it!

I make lists every day actually I've been looking for a job for a couple of months now (I live at home, so money is not a necessary need) and I NEED lists to keep myself busy. It helps me to actually do something, and when I look back I think, 'WOw, I don't have a job but nonetheless I'm extremely active'

I have this same problem too. Sometimes I cannot force myself to complete something, I keep getting up to do stupid crap like brew a pot of coffee, take the trash out, call someone, etc...
Some people say that the internet is causing ADD in people, constantly shuffling through information all day.

10 pints of stella and a large kebab should make filling in the application form a breeze. Dont forget to send it off straight away. As equality grows, violence declines.

Perhaps deep-down you don't really want the job?

It could also be what your eating or drinking before you concentrate. That's why Buddhist monks don't eat after noon. They don't want anything in their systems around 5 PM so that they can meditate.
