i've never had to shave in 37 years....babyface skin you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

I've got to shave my cheeks and neck every other day to look professional. I usually keep a small soul patch and alternate between a moustache and goatee. If I'm not doing anything on the weekend I skip shaving altogether. Like Anxiety said, I tell myself it's good for the skin.
I never shave body hair-- and no I don't have hair on my back -- so I can't sympathize with women there. In fact, I admit I have somewhat of a double standard because I can't stand being with a woman with hair on her legs.

What is this "shaving" you speak of?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It all depends. I usually have a basic goatee. Occasionally, I grow in the sides to meet that goatee. Other times (like now), I sport a mustache. When I want to give my face a break, I don't shave for about a week. But, my facial hair isn't as curly as most brothers' -- it has to grow a bit before looking neat. At that point, I just grow a full, but neat, beard.
As for women shaving, I've always dug hairy legs. Must've been that childhood trip to Europe.

Somehow, I don't think that is applicable here. If I'm rockin' the Van Dyke, I will shave every day 'cause there's nothing more crappy-looking than some kind of goatee with stubble around it. Anyway, to answer the original question: it depends on how thick your beard is. May I suggest cruising e-Bay for a "Miami De-Vice"?

I have to shave every other day. My facial hair grows in patches. It looks really dumb. I forgot my razor this weekend so I was real self-conscious.

I'm with you on this one, Anxiety.
Hate shaving! My skin's really sensitive but my beard hair's quite thick. So - if I shave - I can get razor burn ; if I don't shave - I look like Grizzly Adams. If I could avoid that bit of my getting-ready routine I'd be very happy. I'm just glad I don't have to shave twice a day. I'd never leave the bathroom, for a start. My solution was to buy a good electric razor. And growing a beard. Much easier.

Hey, I heard great things about your this weekend at Karen's. I hope to meet you one of these days. What was that about Vegans and their cows? Hahahaha!! To look "professional," I need to do it every other day. Shaving every day is too rough on my skin, although I shaved daily back in high school (maybe I could do it because my skin was more oily then?). Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

Sensitive skin boys and men, try shaving at night before you go to bed instead of first thing in the morning. Socks still got butt like a leather seat...

I might try that. Sometimes I do just because it gives me that extra bit of time in the mornings. I think all men should have shaving lessons in their teenage years. Like when Danny Glover teaches his son in Lethal Weapon. Someone once told me you should shave upwards at first - in little small strokes - then downwards. I'd look like a frickin' raspberry that way.

Im very dark so it always looks like I need a shave! Thus, I always have a 5 o'clock shadow! Luckily, I have good hair growth so it never looks too shabby on me. I think about a week's growth is sufficient before I really need to shave again.

Anxiety said: I hate shaving. If I could go without shaving, I'd be able to get ready for work so much quicker in the morning. But when I don't shave before work, I feel skanky, like I'm wearing dirty sweatpants to the office or something. However, some guys are able to get away with rockin' the scruff and I guess it's just considered a "beard" or something.
So I ask - what's the accepted facial hair etiquette? At what point is it stylish or a personal grooming choice, and at what point are you just a big, hairy, lazy slob who needs to clean that mess up? Because, you know, if I can get away with not shaving for a few days, I'm all over it. as i started reading this i thought you were talking about shaving your legs!!

i actually like when a man doesnt shave for awhile. not to the point where its a full blown beard but the scruffiness is nice. i like to rub my face against it

You asked for advice, so here goes:
Heavy beard? Shave every day you go to work. It does give the impression that the office isn't worth your time if you don't shave. If you have skin trouble, try shaving in the shower and changing your blades frequently. Have a really light beard? Cool. But shave with an electric razor every day, so you don't look like you're 15 and trying to prove something. If you stand in front of a light, the fuzz glows, and everyone will notice. On your own time? You can get away with a few days' growth if that's how you start your look. Add baggy clothes, a baseball hat or sweats (of any degree of cleanliness), and you can look like a slob, but fast. When the sunlight strikes raindrops in the air, they act as a prism and form a rainbow. The rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colors. Regardless of the day, I'm glad you were born.

Does or has anyone ever used a strate razor? I keep thinking I would like to get/use one, but honestly they scare the shit right out of me. Maybe I seen one to many horror movies where they were used as impliments of death. However I have hear they can leave a clean saved look for 2-3 days. News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so. You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I've considered using one of those before; I bet they leave you silky smooth. I wouldn't trust myself in the mornings, though. I'd be dangerous.
