The original King Kong is one of my top 20 favorite films of all time. I don't think it can be improved on at all. I also appreciate the 1976 remake as a piece of pop camp film art. I'm looking forward to Jackson's remake, but after reading a few weeks back that it would have a 3-hour running time, I realized that it could very well be a bloated Jackson film a la LotR. The addition of current CGI effects could enhance his telling of the story, but I don't know that the addition of anything to the story itself is necessary at all.

interesting factiods. thank you.

but i still remember feeling like "wow, i wish i'd read these first' when i discovered the magician's nephew. the entire origin of narnia is explained therein as we get to see aslan sing narnia to life.

but i see where an argument could be made that the lion, witch, wardrobe does have the most popular appeal, i guess

Yeah, but it's kinda cool to discover all those things along the way. I place it next-to-last in the series. It gives you the history, and sets you up for the finale at the same time.

agree to disagree. i'd still recommend it as first to anyone who wants continuity thumbs up!

Sure. It's really just a personal choice anyway. In many ways, it's kinda like Star Wars. Anyone new to the series I would recommend watching the OT before watching the prequels, but they certainly could be watched I-VI.

I too love the original. I'm just happy that Jackson love the original so much, and is just approaching it reverently.

I don't see how it could be expanded to 3 hours either, but we'll see. I do know that the spider-sequence is in this one, so that's cool!

totally off-topics but did anyone else read lloyd alexander's books (taran of caer dalben, etc.) those would make a rocking movie series as well imo

Y'know, I read the first couple of books ages ago, and I can't remember them at all. I plan on tracking them down in the used bookstores in the coming months.

Yeah, the little spider sequence he did for the original was kinda cute.

Probably because both are firmly rooted in the classic mythological archetypes. Personally, those are my favorite type of stories.

Naw, not really. Jack is a friggin' genius, and I'm sure he can pull it off. Brody is decent too. Unorthodox, for sure, but not a problem.

Well, we here at the Walken campaign haven't exactly let him know that we are nominating him to run for President. We are hoping to keep it secret from him until the support is so strong that he cannot help but run.

It is CLEAR that Walken is the man for the job, though. All one has to do is take a look at his films to see that no one can mess with this man! He would end the war on terror in an instant, with one sentence! Picture this:

"Hey. You. Fucking terrorists. You. You knock that shit off. Now. Or I will. Personally. Come to your house. Rip your. Lungs out. While your family. Watches. Then, I will burn you. Alive. And then. Piss on. Your. Ashes. Capiche?"

The terrorists would disarm immediately and everyone would scramble to ally themselves with Walken. People know that, if you are on his good side, then he is the cool as can be. Those who are on his bad side, however, live the rest of their short lives in fear!

The Choice of actors is really questionable. Adrian Brody? Not hero type material. And this Kong looks too fake. Especially for 2005. I prefer the 1976 King Kong Movie. A great kong, a babe in Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges who has been a good leading man type.

I have both versions, and the '33 one is pretty goofy in a different way. the '76 one ends in such a negative resonant light. She is surrounded by reporters and photographers in her "hollywood" gown, and the one good man in her life, can't get to her and hten gives up on her and watches as she cries out in despair. STRONG ENDING.

The King Kong Story is goofy. It's pretty hard avoid the cheese factor. But you should at least like the monster and the cast.

The monster looks like a rubber suit. There are no dinosaurs, or anything other than a big snake.

I like the movie, but in the same sense that I like cheesy flicks like Plan 9 From Outer Space.

To me, if you are going to do Kong, go all out. The way it tries to be so serious just makes it more campy. They tried to restrain from going for spectacle and granduer, and to downplay the silliness of it, but it had the opposite effect.

...to a goofy movie.

I have lots of love for that flick, because it was one of the first movies I remember going to see as a kid that wasn't animated, but as an adult I can admit that it is lacking.
