do you ever get homesick?

I don't live in my homeland, and I get these pangs of homesickness, even when I see a daft picture like this:

sigh
does it ever happen to you?

I get homesick for a land that exists in memories and dreams. I never got attached to land.

Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.
You have those internalized issues because you want to, you like to, stop.

I was only 7, so my memories are of baking smells and summers at my grandmas. Green fields and blue skies...

EXACTLY! I went back there twice, and I am pining for something that does not exist. The reality of that place is not better than where I am now (especially the weather barf )

Yes, I do. For a couple different places that I"ve lived.I also have very strong feelings about Cornwall, England. My father and his whole family are from there and I always loved the pictures and the stories they told. I finally got to visit a couple years ago and it felt like home, even got to meet some of my Dad's cousins!! I'm definitely going back for a longer stay in the near future.

Sometimes I get homesick, without ever been to those places that run through my blood. My grandmother was a Jewish woman. Her father was Russian and her mother Polish. I had an incredible strong friendship with her. Whenever I hear 'Klezmer'-music or smell 'borsjt', something starts to run through my blood.

But I guess it's rather some vague cultural identity-thing, that doesn't have much to do with certain places, but rather things I grew up with that are so non-Belgian and hard to share with the people around me, unless they are family.

I want to go to these countries, I want to visit Auswitsch, but I don't have to do it now. I still got a whole life to do this, or this is what I at least presume.

That's how it was for me with Cornwall, but when I actually got there it was an amazing feeling, both physical and spiritual to be there. I hope you get to visit those countries, it could be amazing for you too. hug

Same here. That's what the word "homesick" sounds like it means anyway. smile

I tried to smuggle the mug out, but he caught me and bashed me over the head with it. Which I didn't think was terribly smart of him, because he could have just given me the mug instead of breaking it over my head. Now neither of us can use it!

TMPletz

There are places I’ll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more
