I would rather have a thread devoted to Pat than Best. At least the character he created had some nobility and wisdom to pass on. He inspired a generation to take up a martial art so that errr,,,they didn't have to fight (to quote Bart Simpson, "I already know how not to fight. When do I get my nunchukkas?"). His noble wisdom was a lesson to us all, and taught us that there was no defence to The Crane despite all logical evidence to the contrary. Sadly, I think I may have missed my chance to be the next Karate Kid. Wax on, Pat, wax off...

For those player haters out there, Pat Morita aka Mr. Miyagi definitely deserves a sticky. Pat created one of the most quoted movie characters in the last quarter century and the fact that the role does not descend to stereotype is all due to Mr. Morita's talents. He will be missed.
My lyrical tribute to this great actor (with a little help from Bernie Taupin) Lantern in the Wind 2005 Goodbye Miyagi Though I never knew you at all you had the skills of martial arts and saved Daniel from a fall. The jerks kicked his Jersey ass but you showed him “wax on, wax off”. Then he did the crane move and made them all look soft. And it seems to me you lived your life like a lantern in the wind. Always knowing that karate was only for defense. A black belt didn’t matter if you could hold up your pants. And without your skillful teaching Daniel would not have had a chance. Loneliness was tough. Your wife died many years since. And you left that chick in Okinawa Because you would not fight your friend. But then you went back to the village you of your birth. And you taught Daniel the drum move and he made the bad guy hurt. Goodbye Miyagi. You lived as quiet as a mouse. But you had all those nice cars and a freshly painted house. And it seems to me you lived your life Like a lantern in the wind. You somehow made a winner out of Liza’ s twin. You always had those sayings that were so deep. And you brought out you trusty broom when Daniel asked you how to sweep. All good things they say never last...

The man inspired me and every other kid in my school to 'crane kick' the crap out of their friends at break times
Seriously though, He'll be remembered fondly by me and a generation of folks who watched his Karate Kid movies with delight. Rest easy, Mr. Morita "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."

You were an icon. Rest in peace, little man.
Would you know my name If I saw you in heaven? Would it be the same If I saw you in heaven? I must be strong And carry on, 'Cause I know I don't belong Here in heaven. Would you hold my hand If I saw you in heaven? Would you help me stand If I saw you in heaven? I'll find my way Through night and day, 'Cause I know I just can't stay Here in heaven. Time can bring you down, Time can bend your knees. Time can break your heart, Have you begging please, begging please. Beyond the door, There's peace I'm sure, And I know there'll be no more Tears in heaven. Would you know my name If I saw you in heaven? Would it be the same If I saw you in heaven? I must be strong And carry on, 'Cause I know I don't belong Here in heaven.

That movie was dreadful and there are no memorable catchphrases from Mr. M in that one. You want to see monks bowling, check it out. Otherwise, steer clear. All good things they say never last...
