I was looking at pictures from last Thanksgiving today and 25 percent of the people at our dinner died since last year. Sadly our family suffered 2 tragic deaths in the last year sad

It's very sad and depressing to see happy pictures from just last year. It feels like a million years ago.

I am so sorry Dean! hug

Thanks. I feel real sorry for my mother being as it was her Mother (My Grandma) and her Husband (My stepdad). I have a feeling Holidays are extra tough on her.

When I was a teenager and in college, every Thanksgiving was spent at my sister's house in Kentucky...mg, I loved the atmosphere that surrounded us all at her house..*smile*...same ritual every year: I'd arrive by bus from college the day before, the rest of my family arriving by plane throughout the day...by evening we'd all be back together, laughing and drinking, and ordring like 5 pizzas because we didn't want to cook anything until Thanksgiving day..lol smile

After she passed away, the very first Thanksgiving at her house was hard...the mood and atmosphere was just overwhelming with her absence. You make it thru, though...and we would just talk about what she would do or what she would say every year at Thanksgiving...it kept her there with us. rose

My own thanksgiving has become rather twisted up already. I was thrilled not to be doing it this round as I have had a long year and am hosting 35 at an invasion next weekend. This afternoon my son took ill and it triggered an asthma attack! Although it has been years since this has happened... I know to avoid allergens or end up in urgent care so I had to cancel on my family. After a small amount of deliberation, we have moved the festivities here so my son won't feel left out or as if he missed a holiday. I am honored but wasn't prepared for the work or mess. I adore my family though and it will all work together for good. What a hassle for my mother who is prepping and now packing up to drag it all here!

Add to this I mentioned my new bed doesn't arrive until Dec 2nd and she asked same size right... I was all NOPE I dropped to a queen... eek she mumbled under her breathe and I knew then she had bought sheets for my last bed and color scheme for Christmas... boxed I am a bigger pain in the ass this year then I was as a teenager!

I spent my day with my cousins(they are like brothers and sisters). I had to deal with my least fave cousin talking all his racist bullshit. I couldn't stand it. He's homophobic, racist, and Republican.

I cooked dinner. It took hours, because I love slow cooking. I started Wed night and cooked for 4 hours on thanksgiving. Then my Brother, Our mom, my brother's wife, my wife and myself sat down and had a great Turkey dinner.

After pumpkin pie I sent them home and took a 4 hour nap.

Thanksgiving is a stupid holiday. hmph!

Stuffing yourselves with more food than some people get in a month as a way to celebrate cultural genocide. Hope y'all had fun. sigh

As a matter of fact, I had a fabulous time with my family, playing with my nieces and nephews and sharing a wonderful meal. Plenty to be thankful for. Holidays are about what you make them be about. Sure, there's plenty in this country's past (and present for that matter) to be ashamed of, but setting aside a day a year to recognize how much we have and show gratitude for that is not one of them.

Why not show gratitude all year long? You don't need to set aside a special day for it.

i had a groovy thanksgiving!!!! groovy!

i spent it taking a road trip into wisconsin to visit my cousin and her friends on a hobby farm. i met four llamas, four goats, a miniature horse, a donkay, two horses, three dogs and two cats plus a conure!!!

then the three of us humans had a light vegetarian supper and worked on beading projects. i made a necklace and earrings and a bracelet (which needs shortening). all in all a wonderful good time.

and for anyone out there planning on meeting llamas - they are not shy. not shy at all. they walk right up and touch noses with you. eek Falloff:
